Munch and Move Program - Fundamental Movement Skills

The Munch and Move Program is a government initiative promoting healthy lifestyles for children during the early childhood years. This program is implemented within our preschool and promotes; being active each day, choosing water as a drink, eating more fruits and vegetables, reducing screen time and choosing healthy snacks.

Our preschoolers have been spending time most afternoons on the school's running track. Warming up by running a few laps of the track and then concentrating  on the fundamental movement movement skills of galloping, skipping, jumping and side stepping. For children to develop these fundamental skills during their early years sets them up with strength and co-ordination to build on these when beginning to play a variety of sports. Strength in their fundamental movement skills also supports concentration and the acquisition of fine motor skills.

Puzzles

A great way to exercise the mind. The children are becoming very clever with puzzles and we have had to head to the storeroom for more challenging ones. Puzzles require children to think and problem solve, anticipate, use trial and error, concentrate on small and large areas of a picture and at times work with a friend to complete the puzzle.

Celebrating Mother's Day at Preschool

Both our pink and purple groups took advantage of purchasing from the P&C's Mother's Day Stall this week. The purple group, who attended Wednesday this week, had the opportunity to attend the stall. They were each given the responsibility to carry their money to the hall, take turns making a purchase and choosing an item for their Mum, Grandmother or Aunty. We have received several comments about how sensible and responsible each of them were.

To celebrate Mother's Day the children also had the opportunity to make a card for their Mum, Grandmother or Aunty. This involved creative drawing and writing skills.

The children's key word sign vocabulary was also extended to include some Mother's Day words and phrases - I hope they shared these with Mum on the day.
