Clyde North Campus News

Welcome to Term 2.  I extend a very warm welcome back to all students and families as we move into Term 2. Whilst the weather starts to get a little colder and the days feel shorter due to a lack of sunshine, our spirits will stay nourished through the exciting opportunities that term two always presents.  There was no time to settle back before years seven, eight and nine students were busy engaging in a seminar from the Cyber Safety Project. Following on from last term’s successful seminar presented to parents, it was the students time to learn, engage, interact, and importantly ask questions about staying safe online. I commend all students who were active participants in these sessions proving our partnership with the Cyber Safety Project is essential for the safety and wellbeing of our young people.  I encourage all parents to engage in conversation with their child about these sessions to build a shared knowledge and develop a deeper trust enabling our young people to seek help ratherthan be afraid of losing their phone or device when they may have made poor decisions online.  Next week, our pastoral care session will continue the conversation and learning around being safe online as we look to our students for critical feedback and explore further cyber safety strategies to empower students to be live, learn, and play safely online acting with integrity, strength, empathy and responsibility.

On Thursday 26th April we commemorated ANZAC DAY with a special service led by the College Captains and developed by the Vocational Major students. Usually, we would assemble outside on specially created Flanders Field, aptly covered with red poppies and white crosses signifying the loss of so many lives. However, this year the weather was against us leading to the service being held in the Geode. The Geode could not have been more perfect for this most solemn occasion with the darkened theatre lit only by a deep red and a backdrop of beautiful poppies.

As Poems and descriptions of battle were read by the College Captains, we were able to make the connections to our history and most importantly to the sense of courage required by the fallen, fighting for the freedom we enjoy today. As Ms Massee played the Last Post, and a minute silence followed by the Reveille, the true spirit of ANZAC Day was felt by all.  My sincere thanks to Ms Massee for this special contribution to the service. We finished the service with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem and my thanks and admiration to our wonderful students their willingness to share their incredible talent.

After the service our special guests enjoyed some wonderful morning tea served in the Hospitality centre. Thank you to Mrs Valencia and her team of students for their significant contribution to this event.

Term 2 Focus:

This term we focus on collaboration from our ROCKS. Students will be presented with many opportunities to explore this element of ROCKS to develop a sense of self and community. It starts day one in the classroom, working with their teachers and each other. To further foster collaboration, routines will become part of the daily narrative ensuring that all students maintain high standards in relation to:

  • Being on time for school and every class with the correct materials.
  • Taking pride by wearing the correct uniform every day.
  • Maintaining the high level of compliance of the mobile phone policy.
  • Taking every opportunity to engage in all school activities.

We ask for your support and encouragement through out term to ensure that our students exceed these expectations as we know they can.

Thank you to all parents, guardians and caregivers who took the opportunity to engage with the Student Led Conferences held over the past two weeks. These occasions are invaluable in building a shared and collaborative culture supporting the learning and wellbeing of our young people.

Finally, a special request to all parents, guardians, and caregivers:
