Year 10 Update

Welcome all Year 10s to Term 2. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to work with such a wonderful year level who are driven and involved in many aspects of Shelford school life.

This year the Quaerite program for Year 10 has been developed around the theme Resilience, Respect and Relationships. It is underpinned by the Shelford Girls’ Grammar Values. The Year 10 Quaerite Wellbeing Program focuses on the students’ understanding, enacting and modelling Resilience and Respect in their thoughts, feelings and behaviours within the Shelford community.

We also aim to focus on building a sense of belonging and preparing them to be bold leaders both within the school community but also beyond the boundaries of Shelford. Sessions have included working with our School Psychologist Edith around perfectionism and anxiety, how to improve study skills and most recently the importance of sleep. The Year 10s also undertook a workshop with Shelford’s English Coordinator Julia Lloyd Bruin looking at ethical leadership which will be followed up with further sessions throughout the year.

Following on from the area of leadership, congratulations to the following Year 10 students who have been elected Parliamentarians by their peers:

  • Amelie S 10 A
  • Freya A 10B
  • Sofia W 10C

I would also like to commend the Year 10 Peer Support Leaders who have met regularly during the Year 10 Wellbeing Program with the Year 7 students to help with their transition to the Senior School. These leaders have spent a great deal of time preparing these valuable sessions and the connections they have made with their Year 7 students have been invaluable.

Finally, Term 2 is a big term for our Year 10s who will be undertaking exams in week 7 Monday 5 June–9 June) and Work Experience in week 8 (Tuesday 13 June–Friday 16 June).  In the lead up to this session the Year 10s will be undergoing OH&S training preparation for their week in the workforce. The girls will also undertake Morrisby Testing and begin the very exciting process of VCE Subject selection in Week 4. I look forward to working closely with your daughters in Term 2.
