Musical Update: Mamma Mia!
“Here We Go Again” into another term of Mamma Mia! rehearsals with the stunning Senior School students. Each week our fabulous cast of 85 students have been gathering together to dance, sing and tell the story of the iconic songs of ABBA, and “I Have a Dream” of how spectacular this production will be! Our lead actors have thrown themselves into their roles and each week I encourage them to “Take a Chance” in developing hilarious characters through physical theatre and intricate choreography.
We are so lucky to have the very talented Ms Kelsey Holden as our Choreographer and the dance numbers are turning out to be truly magical. Mr Frank Blakiston (assisted by Ms Anya McCleod) are leading the students in singing and, as a result, homes across Melbourne are now being filled with the unforgettable tunes of ABBA as the students sing, hum, and rehearse. Our production and directors team are true “Super Troopers” and I thank them for their incredible work so far.
While the rehearsal times are “Slipping Through my Fingers”, I have no doubt that all of the students’ hard work and creative determination will help make this show a great success. So please “Gimme Gimme Gimme” your enthusiasm for this Shelford musical and encourage the students who are participating in it – it’s a huge undertaking. Being a part of a creative process like this production is rewarding on so many levels and students are growing in confidence, making connections with new friends, and forming memorable moments that will be cherished for years. “I Do, I Do, I Do” know that this show will be a highlight of this year for our school community!
Finally, “Does Your Mother Know” the dates of the musical? Please mark 27 – 29 July in your calendars… and make sure you invite “Fernando” along too! The show is sure to be as sweet as “Honey Honey”!
It is a privilege and an honour to work alongside the “Dancing Queens” of Shelford Girls' Grammar Senior School.
