Principal’s Message

Mrs Katherine Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

Week 11 has arrived and we are nearing the end of a very productive Term 1. We have a few events on this week at school.

Thank you to our transition parents for coming to the open morning last Thursday. It is always lovely to have families visiting our school and to see what Sacred Heart School offers for our new Kindergarten students.

We wish our PP5 Swimming Relay Team all the best for the NSWPSSA swimming championships in Sydney this week. Our team will now compete against PP5 competitors from both Catholic and Public Schools. Thank you to Mrs Goddard and the parents of our team for their preparation and committment to our school and ensuring our swimmers can take part in every opportunity that has come their way.

This Tuesday our School Captains and Sports Captains will be representing our school in Armidale at the Holy Week Chrism Mass. This is a Dicoesan mass held at St Mary's and St Joseph's Cathedral in Armidale.

On Thursday the following events will be taking place:

~ 9-9:30am Easter Hat Parade (Transition - Yr 6).

~ 9:30-10 am - Easter Liturgy (at the school).

~ Sausage sizzle lunch for all students (no cost).

~ Out of uniform day (Project Compassion fundraiser - gold coin donation).

~ Easter raffle (Project Compassion fundraiser - gold coin donation for a ticket).

Transition for 2024 Kindergarten students will commence on Thursday 27 April (Week 1 Term 2). To assist with the beginning of the transition program we will be holding the final event for this term:

Thursday 6 April- Transition students join in the Easter Hat parade, with their hats from 9am- 9:30am.

The first day back for Term 2 for students will be Wednesday 26 April. Staff will return on Monday 24 April and attend a Professional Development Day in Gunnedah.

Our school will be participating in the ANZAC day march here in Boggabri on Tuesday 25 April. We will meet at the Post Office at 8:15am to commence marching at 8:30am to the cenotaph where a servcie will follow. All students are to wear summer uniform and bring their school hat and a water bottle.

Sacred Heart is participating in the schools exhibit at the upcoming Gunnedah Show. If you are attending the show please check out our handwriting, story writing and art entries from our students in the school's pavillion.

With the commencement of Term 2, there will be the change over from summer to winter uniform. There will be a transition period between the two uniforms according to the weather for the first four weeks of Term 2. During this transition period students are either to wear their summer uniform or their winter uniform but not a combination of the two. Please remember that sports jackets are only to be worn with the sports uniform and the navy jumper is to be worn with the formal school uniform. The only amendment to this during the four week period will be school photo day where all students will need to attend in their full winter uniform.

If you know of anyone wishing to enrol their child for 2024 and participate in the transition program this year, please let me know. Program details and enrolment forms are available by contacting Ms Traynor in the Office.

If you know of anyone who is intending to enrol at Sacred Heart either in Kindergarten or any other year group for 2023, please encourage them to contact me at school.

Thank you to our school community for their continued support of Sacred Heart this term.  I am incredibly appreciative of the hard work and support provided by staff, students, parents and the wider school community.  I wish everyone a happy and holy Easter, with plenty of chocolate and time to relax!

Happy birthday to Mrs Rees who celebates her birthday on Friday the 14th of April and Mrs Traynor who celebrates her birthday on the 22nd of April. We hope you have a great day!

Take care,

Kath Baird
