Project Compassion 2020
As you all may know we have started Project Compassion. Project Compassion is an International organisation of the Catholic Church in Australia. For Lent we are invited to support Project Compassion. This donation helps to empower those needing support, due to poverty, climate change and war. Please donate if possible.
In your classrooms there is a Project Compassion donation tub that looks like this.
Feel free to bring in money to donate, and the class who raises the most money wins, drum role please… 30 minutes of extra play time.
Thank you from Mali, Will and Sam R your Year 6 Social Justice Leaders
Year 3 The Sacrament of Reconciliation
Tuesday 3rd March and Wednesday 4th March, saw some of our Year 3 students make their Sacrament of Reconciliation. Thank you to Mr Steele Anderson and Miss Kate Johnston in conjunction with the Year 3 Parents for preparing the children for this Sacrament. From the positive feedback I have received from parents, students and Father Ian, this new iniatitive has been highly successful.
Catholic Education Week
Catholic Education Week will run from Sunday 15 March 2020 to Sunday 22 March 2020. The theme is 'The future is listening'. Our Year 6 Social Justice Leaders, together with our Year 6 SRC Leaders, will be accompanying me to the Mass of St Patrick for Schools.
The Mass of St Patrick for Schools will be held on Tuesday 17 March 2020. This is a significant feature of Catholic Education Week and all schools across Melbourne send their school leaders. The Mass of St Patrick, is celebrated by Archbishop Peter A. Comensoli. Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne to celebrate their Catholic identity, the pivotal role they play within their local community as well as the strength of the sector. More information will be coming next week, in regards to our own St Patrick's celebration at St Finbar's. We have the good fortune to have our own resident Irish member of staff Miss Amy Lafferty to direct proceedings. It promises to be a highly enjoyable day.
Year 1 Family Faith Night
Next Wednesday 11th March, our Year 1s and their parents/carers will be participating in Prayers in Pyjamas. This is always a highlight of the year. It will start at 6pm sharp in the library, before we break off into our group sessions. These nights are always a privilege sharing the faith journey of the younger members of our community with their parents. The Year 1 Family Mass will follow on Sunday 15th March at 5pm. Thank you to the reps for getting the cake stall underway. Sharing our faith together gives witness to the traditions and celebrations of our Catholic Identity.
