Senior School

Senior School Snapshot
It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through 2018!
Our senior students will be no doubt be looking forward to the break after working hard to complete Unit 1 and 3 outcomes for their VCE studies.
It has been a busy end to the term with all of our Unit 3 and 4 students completing the GAT on June 13. We were delighted with the attitude of our students in attending and completing the assessment task.
The mid-year break is an important time to reflect and recharge before the final push to Term 4 exams. On Thursday 19 July, Unit 3/4 teachers will be available for parent-teacher interviews as we look to support those students in their final year of VCE or those Year 11 students completing a 3/4 subject. Bookings can be made via Compass.
The GAT was not the only major assessment this term. All Year 10 and 11 students completed their end-of-semester exams and we were again very proud of the way they carried themselves during this stressful period.
As we approached the mid-year break, Year 11 and 12 students had the chance to let their hair down at the Vogue Ballroom in Burwood for the Inaugural VCE Student Formal. It was a great night, and all those who attended enjoyed a fantastic time. We in Senior School would like to especially thank the student organisers, Lilly-Rose Watkins, Hannah Treisman and Mallisa Waldron for their hard work and endeavours to ensure the event went off without a hitch. The dancing went “all night long, all night, all night, all night long…”
Our Year 10 students spent the final week of term completing their Work Experience placements. The feedback we have received from the employers looking after them has been extremely positive and demonstrates the wonderful way our students represent the school in the wider community.
From the first day of Term 3 it will be all systems go. Students in Year 9, 10 and 11 will be undertaking the important task of selecting subjects for 2019. Parent information sessions will be held on Monday 23 July for students moving into Year 11 and for students moving into Year 10 on Tuesday 24 July. All students who will be in Senior School in 2019 will be having subject counselling sessions. Information regarding these will be sent out through Compass at the commencement of Term 3.
We in Senior School wish the entire Koonung community a happy and safe break!

Debating Triumph
On a cold winter's night on Monday 25 June the Grade A debaters and the Grade C debaters turned up to Camberwell Grammar to do battle. Secret topic nights are always a bit exciting and both teams were ready to go.
The Year 10 'C debaters' of Elisha Punay, Charlotte Terrill, Ruken Zeyto and Claire Morgan were delighted with their topic – "That all schools should be co-educational" - Affirmative. After an hour in the library the team had structured such a good argument that they were able gain a clear win over the boys of Salesian College.
The Year 12 'A debaters', Isaac Doblin, Jarrah Marsh, Daniel McLeod, Luke Whitebrook and Kireeti Thotakura, were equally happy with their topic – "That the government should sell the ABC"- Negative. The team’s general knowledge of current affairs gave them the edge over the girls of Siena College and they too were clear winners.
One more round to go in August. Hopefully our teams will be in the finals.
We have 24 excited Year 7 and Year 8 students who will be starting their debating careers in the Junior Competition next term.
