Run Melbourne - Sunday 29 July
Koonung has registered for the Run Melbourne event, to be held on Sunday 29 July. We will raise awareness and money for the Cathy Freeman Foundation, which funds programs that improve school attendance and educational outcomes for indigenous Australians.
Students, parents and supporters of Koonung are invited to run a 5km, 10km or half-marathon and make a donation to help close the gap.

Did you know 90% of non-indigenous Australians finish year 12, yet only 65% of indigenous Australians do?

"Painting Bee" update
On Saturday we held a Painting Working Bee and I would like to warmly thank the more than thirty hard workers who attended. A combination of parents, Rotarians, students and staff, cleaned and painted the corridors of the main building between the hours of 8.30am and 4.00pm. An enormous amount of work was completed to freshen up the walls around the school. It is incredible what can be achieved with a community working together. During the holidays, trims and doors will be finished off by a professional painting service. I would like to once again thank David Winter for spoiling us with a generous morning tea from Bread Street. A more detailed acknowledgement with some pictures will be provided in the next newsletter. I hope all members of our community appreciate the efforts and treat the corridors with care as they go about their work.
Thank you again to the following attendees:

Headlice Alert
We have had a parent notify us of their child having Head Lice. Head Lice are a nuisance and can become very uncomfortable for those who have them, if not treated early.
The most effective way to treat this would be if all parents check their child’s head. If there is evidence of Head Lice please treat the problem over the next few days, especially during the school holidays. If everyone does this at the same time we can substantially reduce the problem and prevent re-infection of those who are good enough to treat their children.
If your child has head lice – inform anyone who has had head to head contact with them and ask them to check their family for head lice.
Bed clothes and soft toys can be put in the dryer on hot for several minutes to help get rid of any lice eggs.
It is important to ensure that your sons or daughters who have long hair have it tied up, not loose, as this makes it harder for the lice to attach to the hair. Also remind your children that they should not share hats, brushes or combs.
Please notify myself or the school office as soon as you find head lice so we can then further alert the school community and prevent the problem from getting out of control.
