Principal's Report
Week 3
Our walk to school challenge is well under way in it's third week. We have been walking every Wednesday from Moyhu along the bike path to school. Some mornings we have been walking and running around the school. It has also been great to see a lot more students riding or walking to school from Moyhu or walking home after school, some with their families too. The students have been enjoying the fresh fruit at recess which is being delivered each Friday for the month of October.
In conjunction with the walk to school month, we had Mel from the YMCA visit us last Thursday and take all the students for a yoga class. This was fun and well received by all the students.
Our walk to school month concludes next week, however we will still walk on the Wednesday 1st November from Moyhu to school. Throughout the summer we will still walk and run in the mornings before we begin class.
Regional Zone Athletics
Last Friday Lily Shanley and Ivy O'Connor represented our school at the Regional Zone Athletics in Albury. Lily competed in the 9/10 year old girls 800 metres and finished 9th overall. Ivy competed in the 9/10 year old girls 200 metres, made the final and finished 8th overall. Congratulations to both girls for a great achievement.
Curriculum Day - Numeracy Professional Development for Staff
Last Friday Rick, Bec and Kate worked at the school for the day with Shane Lockhart from Regional Office. He is an Educational Improvement Leader. We updated and created our scope and sequence in numeracy, literacy and inquiry. This will help with planning our curriculum for the remainder of this year and for next year in 2018.
Aspirations Day
Next Friday the 4, 5, 6 students along with the students from the rest of the King Valley Cluster will be involved in an Aspirations Day in Wangaratta. During this day the students will be listening to different speakers along with visiting various locations to learn about different types of occupations that people work to give them ideas for their own future career direction.
An excursion note will be sent home today to attend this.
School Playground
The shade sails and some of the posts have been repaired and or replaced this week which is great timing with the warmer weather upon us. We have a big delivery of new soft fall for the playground being delivered tomorrow, Friday.
Working Bee
We have set a date for a school working bee. It will be next Thursday the 2nd November at 5.00pm. Please bring a wheelbarrow, shovel and rake. The show us your wheels meeting will follow on after the working bee when we are having a bbq and drink together. It would be appreciated if everyone could attend this evening.
A Big Thank You to Regina Crameri and Emma Shanley
Last Thursday evening there was a show presented in the King Valley in which the cluster schools provided the food on the night to raise money for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. Regina and Emma went along at 5.30pm to help out on the night. They didn't finish until 11.00pm. It was a really late night. We really appreciate that they went up there at such short notice and helped on behalf of our school.
