What's happening in our classrooms?

The Grade 4s have settled into the classroom routine and have had plenty of opportunities to interact and learn with their new classmates and teachers. Some of the awesome learning opportunities the students have worked on have been:

Reading:  The students have been participating in guided reading sessions with their teacher and lessons have focused on learning new vocabulary, developing reading skills and deepening comprehension through conversations about the texts we are reading.

Writing:  The students have been working hard on writing responses to famous artworks, books we have read and short films. We have been following the structure provided to us by our consultant Stephen Graham with explicitly teaching English.

Mathematics:  The focus for term one has been developing and strengthening students' understanding of place value through manipulating concrete materials such as Base 10 materials. We are currently learning about number-lines and we have created a human number-line as well as other hands-on activities that have consolidated student understanding.

SWPBS and Respectful Relationships:

We have spent time revising and learning about being safe whilst online and our school matrix, with a focus on behaviour and the importance of whole body listening and learning.

Basketball Coaching

The Grade 4s have received some coaching from basketball coach Simon to prepare them for inter-school sports next year. Take a look through the photos to see what the basketball program was all about.
