Carnivals & Interschool Sport and House news

Term 1 Sport

What a joy it has been to have a whole uninterrupted term of sport after 2 years. The year started off with a bang at the Annual House Swimming Carnival, with another record turnout. The basketball courts were full all day, as was the learner pool for the coveted Year 11 vs Year 12 Pool Volleyball match. There were more costumes than ever before in the Disney+ theme, that caused some headaches for the judges trying to decide who was the best dressed. Congratulations to the green aliens from Year 12 for taking out the title! Well done also to all the competitive swimmers who moved through to the Division competition and to McCubbin house for winning the day overall. A special mention to the teachers on another magnificent win against the students.

Congratulations to Remy Spalding, Sebastian Lim, Johann Kim, Will Thraves, Ethan Chapman, Justin Bao, Jet Cheung, Dylan Bee, Jowdy Moh, Judy Ahmed, Bridget Dods, Tehmi Harding and Keira Tait for their incredible efforts in the Regional Swimming Finals. Good luck to Judy Ahmed who will be going through to the State Finals.

Congratulations to the following teams who won the Division competition and will be moving through to EMR in the coming months. Good luck to all students competing.

  • Senior Girls Cricket

Athletics Carnival - 13 May

A reminder that the Koonung Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 13 May at Hagenauer Reserve in Box Hill. Students are to come to school at normal time and go to their period 1 class for roll marking. They will then walk with their teacher to the venue. The event will end at approximately 2:30pm and students will be dismissed from the venue. Staff will be available to supervise students walking back to school.

Students should be wearing their Koonung Sports Uniform with a coloured tee shirt of their house. Costumes are permitted for those entering the best dressed competition. This is not a free dress day.

EMR Swimming

During Term 1, myself and 10 other students went to Aqualink for regionals swimming. It was a fun day full of cheering for our school and seeing and meeting others from different schools. I enjoyed competing against others and seeing how everyone went. It was a really hot day, but we all did amazing and it was overall a good experience and a fun day.

Interschool Sport at Koonung reminders

Welcome back to another great year of sport at Koonung. We are very excited to be able to send teams out after a long break in 2021. A few reminders for Interschool Sport:

  1. Check Compass regularly for information about team sign-ups.
  2. Please ensure payment and consent is provided by the due date (at least 3 days prior to the event, otherwise it will result in the student being unable to attend the event)
  3. If students decide to pull out of the event before the day, they MUST let either the teacher coaching the team OR Miss Prosenak know ASAP so that we can find another student as a replacement. If not, the team may not have enough players and be unable to go.

Transport cost price increase

Due to rising costs, some sporting activities will be increased to $20 from next term. This is the first increase in nearly six years and is necessary to ensure that our students are able to participate in these events.
