2022 Boroondara Photo Competition
Do you love photography? The 2022 Boroondara Photo Competition is now open.
Each year hundreds of amateur photographers share their images - past and present - of Boroondara and add to our extensive collection of local history photographs.
The theme for this year is Diverse Boroondara and you are invited to enter photos that highlight the diversity and heritage of the spaces, places, and people in our community.
As well as offering cash prizes, the competition aims to capture Boroondara past and present for our Local History photograph collection and engage the community in sharing images of Boroondara. It is a project that can be shared by students with their families. Older members of the family may have photos from the past to enter or wish to be photographed or participate in walking around Boroondara photographing favourite places. Students can photograph scenes and people that reflect their life and school days. The possibilities are endless!

Our talented judges will consider photographs in two categories:
- Young photographers’ competition (school-aged category) - enter your best photographs taken from 2019 to today. (Photos taken in Boroondara - entrants who live, go to school or work in Boroondara). Parental permission required on the entry form for students under 18 years)
This category is divided into three age sections:
- Junior Photographers (Primary School)
- Middle Photographers (Years 7 to 9)
- Senior Photographers (Years 10 to 12 and young people not in secondary school, aged 15 to 17 years as of 1 January 2022)
We will award the following prizes in each age section:
- 1st prize - $60
- 2nd prize - $40
- 3rd prize - $20
Open photograph competition (no age restriction) - enter as many photographs as you like from the past or present. Photos taken in Boroondara - all Australian residents eligible.
- Historical – photograph taken 1800s to 1954
- Historical – photograph taken 1955 to 1991
- Historical – photograph taken 1992 to 2018
- Boroondara Today – photograph taken 2019 to 2022
- My 2021 Experience – in recognition of our community’s experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 – enter your best photograph taken during 2021.
Entries can be submitted until 11.59pm, Friday 15th April. All finalists will be included in an exhibition, Diverse Boroondara, at the Hawthorn Town Hall Gallery in June, and all eligible entries will be catalogued and added to Boroondara Library’s Local History photograph collection.
