Physical Education

We have been fortunate to have Andrew from Gecko Sports join our Physical Education sessions over the past couple of weeks, to focus on athletics. The students have enjoyed learning the techniques for shot put, discus, javelin, high jump and long jump. They have also learned the difference between sprints and long distance running and how our arms and leg strides change.

STEAM

Grade 4/5 and 5/6 have been enjoying exploring the states of matter – liquids, solids and gasses.  They have made predictions, conducted hands on tests to explore the properties and recorded their findings.  Students have discussed the similarities and differences between liquids, solids and gases.  Experiments such as immersing a cup upside down in water to understand that air (a gas) takes up space.  You can look at the video below and try it at home yourself.

Performing Arts

Grade one and two students have been learning about using rhythm sticks to make different sounds and rhythm patterns.  Students were fantastic at copying rhythms when working with a partner to make and then mirror their own rhythm patterns.

VISUAL ARTS

Students in the Junior School, have been learning about various artists, exploring shapes and colours during a painting unit.
