School Council

Hello everyone, my name is Karen Jansen and I’m very proud to represent Weeden Heights as the School Council President this year. You may know me better as the Mum of Stephanie and Alicia in Grade 5. I’ve always enjoyed volunteering roles and serving on the school council allows me to work with a team of fantastic council members and get involved in many aspects of running our school.

It was great to get together on Monday night (albeit still on Webex for now) for our first meeting for 2022. We have a mix of continuing and new members this year which is always wonderful. You have the benefit of some ‘old hands’ who know how things run along with some fresh ideas and new people to get to know. Everyone on council brings their own experience and our discussion on Monday was dynamic and productive…looking forward to a great year!

For those of you unsure what goes on at a council meeting most of our evening is focused on updates from our sub-committees on finance, school policies, buildings and grounds and community building as well as the PFA, Wellbeing Officer, SRC and of course Kylie’s principal’s report. These give us an overview of what’s happening around the school and we discuss ideas, issues or decisions where necessary.

This month much of our meeting was around inducting our new council and forming sub-committees but we also heard about some of the fun PFA have planned for this year and the fantastic results our OSHC program received on their latest assessment. Congratulations to Maria and her team who work so hard…well done and well deserved!

As a final thought for the month, School Council is always at it’s best when working with feedback about what is important to our community, so we encourage everyone to speak to your council members any time, whether you have concerns or feedback regarding our school, want to know more about council or just for a quick social chat. Hopefully this year there will be lots of opportunities for us to spend time together at social nights, assemblies or school drop off and pick up. We look forward to meeting many of you in the coming year.

Enjoy the Rainbow Dress Up Day and Colour Fun Run and have a great weekend!
