Jazz in the Park - thank you!

I need to say a huge thank you to the many parents and community members who made our 28th annual Jazz in the Park event last week such a success.

After we had to postpone the event once because of the weather forecast, we were determined to go ahead and mark the start of the school year before we lose the warm early Autumn weather.

Jazz in the Park is such a great SKiPPS tradition and has brought together our community for music, food, drinks and fun for such a long time.

After two years of remote learning, distancing and not being able to connect, it was wonderful to see so many of our families and students in attendance and having a ball.

Whilst we don't intend the event as a fundraiser (more of a social event), I am very pleased to announce that our Parents Association raised $8600 (TBC) from the evening. This money is held by SKiPPA and used for special projects and fun things around the school (last year we bought a new stage system for performances with the Parents Association funds).

In no particular order, I would like to thank the following people for making the event such a success;

  • SKiPPA, our Parents Association for their tireless work and flexibility to arrange and rearrange the evening around their other work and caring commitments. In particular Samantha, Alana, Priscilla, Pauline, Elise, Mel, Simon and their team.
  • The small army of parents who signed up to volunteer via 'signupgenius'. All of our school events and fundraising only happen with the generosity of our community and we appreciate those of you who ran the stalls during the evening.
  • Susan Bishop, who has been here since the first Jazz in the Park 28 years ago and helped to organise the music for the evening.
  • Sasha Goldsmith for co-ordinating the bar for the evening.
  • Our staff members who volunteered their time, particularly Matt and Michelle, the last to leave at the end of the night.
  • Bec Peniston-Bird for taking these great photos of the night.

School Council Annual General Meeting and Presentation of the 2021 Annual report

Our next School Council meeting at 6pm on Wednesday 30th March is also our AGM and the presentation of our School's 2021 Annual Report.

The Annual Report provides an opportunity for the school community to celebrate achievements, reflect on the school’s performance, and understand where and how improvement efforts have enhanced student achievement, engagement and wellbeing. This is key to building pride and confidence in the government school system.

The first part of the meeting is open for all to attend and will be held in the Art Room to allow for additional attendees. If you would like to attend the presentation of the Annual report, we ask that you RSVP to st.kilda.park.ps@education.vic.gov.au

This will be followed by the new School Council meeting for the first time and us welcoming our new councillors and appointing our office-holders (President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Minutes secretary for the next 12 months.

School Tours 2023

Whilst it feels like the school year has just begun, we have already begun our school tour s for prospective parents for 2023.

If you know any friends, relatives or neighbours with a child starting school next year, please encourage them to make contact with the office and book onto one of our school tours.

What's happening in Italian class?

Dear families:

I am excited to be teaching Italian this year at St Kilda Park Primary.

Foundation students will be studying Pinocchio and ‘the body’ (il corpo) this semester. Students in Years 1-4 will be studying their family tree (l’abero geneologico) and creating a short picture/word story. Students in Years 5/6 will be studying their family tree and giving an oral presentation to their class on an important family artefact.

To help them with their learning, older students have been asked to do a pre-learning task for Italian this semester. Pre-learning tasks help students develop curiosity (one of our key school values) in a topic and allow students to be familiar with knowledge, vocabulary and ideas before they start to learn a new unit of work.

If you are interested in sharing a family recipe or talking about your own migrant experience or connection to Country with our class please email me: palmina.iacobelli@education.vic.gov.au

I look forward to meeting you soon and thank you for your support!
