Tutor Learning Initiative

In response to the significant interruptions to students’ face-to-face learning opportunities over the last two years, the Victorian State Government has provided funding to enable targeted tutoring. This is specifically aimed at providing extra literacy and/or numeracy support to students after looking at data and also from teacher recommendations. As a school we have been able to employ a number of staff who can work with individuals, small groups of students, or indeed work with teachers in classes to further assist with developing students literacy and numeracy capabilities.

Having access to tutors is a fantastic opportunity for our students, with one student stating “My tutor gives me the chance to ask questions about my English work that I don’t think of when I am in class.” A staff member also said that having a tutor working in class meant “There is someone else in my class who can explain mathematical concepts to students in different ways and from a different perspective.” There are currently over 200 students with whom our tutors are working and this list will grow as the year progresses. During term 1, our tutors have focused on Years 7, 9, 11 & 12. In term two the focus will shift to Years 8 and 10.
