Congratulations Jerrica

Ballarat High School actively promotes kindness in addition to its school values of Pride, Respect and Responsibility. One Year 12 student and Deputy School Captain Jerrica Johns, has enthusiastically exhibited such qualities, not only in the school setting, but also out in the Ballarat community. She knows all too well how a little kindness can have a positive effect on a person’s life and on her own.

Jerrica moved to Australia from Kerala at the age of one. She is the Youth Ambassador of Ballarat Keralites Foundation of Australia (B.K.F.A.), which is a non-profit charity focused on community organisations run by the Malayalee community in Ballarat. Being part of this organisation has allowed Jerrica to step out of her comfort zone and become involved with the wider community by helping and supporting those who are in need.

Her contributions include donating her hair to the Cancer Council of Australia, volunteering her time with the local Soup Bus, teaching dance and distributing food hampers to the homeless and disadvantaged people of Ballarat.

Jerrica is the holder of the 2021 City of Ballarat Youth Volunteer Award and winner of the Major Award in the age category of 12 to 17 years. Achieving such recognition has opened up opportunities to work with the youth of Ballarat as a Youth Strategy Co-designer with the Ballarat City Council.

Jerrica can be seen on the current Break the Bias poster for International Women’s Day at the Lucas Shopping Centre and below.

Congratulations Jerrica on your contributions to Ballarat High School’s wider community and striving to make a difference.
