Yellow Group

Yellow Group children have been learning all about ANZAC Day. We introduced this by reading the story 'Lest we Forget'. This story was full of beautiful illustrations showing a parallel story of a grandfather's experiences at war such as wearing his brand-new soldiers uniform and sitting with his fellow diggers in the trenches; with his grandson's important days of his life such as playing soccer with a team and his first day of school. The children shared stories of their thoughts and feelings regarding the illustrations as they listened to the story.

After our story we each made a poppy to add to our class wreath, we extended upon this as we visited the Miners Rest Cenotaph. We explained that the Cenotaph represents a place to remember those who have served in the war; we mentioned how there were soldiers, nurses, doctors, officers and many more people involved.

We finished this by laying down our wreath and participating in a minute of silence.
