Senior School News

Welcome back to Term 2.

The Excel students hit the ground running and have worked hard over the first term to achieve success and the Senior School have been very impressed with the way students have returned to a school life that we would consider relatively “normal” when we compare it to the events of 2020. There is a busy term ahead with lots of events, excursions and milestones on the horizon starting with the Athletics Carnival and Student Led Conferences in week 2 and 3.

Big Day In/Out

Last term, as you may have read, we ended the term with a Big Day in which resulted in lots of positive feedback from the students. These sessions gave students an opportunity to build connectedness amongst the cohort as well as focus on vital skills in Excel on motivation and goal setting. Later in this term we will have another Big Day In as well as a Big Day Out in the week beginning 7th June. This will be an opportunity for students to engage in a program focused on collaboration, communication, resilience and resourcefulness. Students who have not yet paid or got consent for the Big Day In/Out must pay and give consent for these now if they haven’t already.

Mentor Focus

In mentoring for term 2, we have a strong focus towards careers and pathways as well as health and wellbeing. We have a number of guest presenters coming to speak to students about TAFE and University Applications leading up to the course counselling process for year 11 students and Tertiary applications for year 12 students. We also have the Later Years Expo coming up on 3rd June which provides an opportunity for students are caregivers to gather information on subjects and career pathways as there will be both University and TAFE providers at the expo.

Assessment

Term 2 is always a busy time for assessment in VCE and VCAL as it is the end of Unit 1 and 3. It is important that students seek support and help from their teachers where required and that the Senior School Team, Wellbeing Team and Careers Team are also available for additional support. It is important that students make use of their time and complete homework however we also encourage students to engage in hobbies or physical activity as a way to promote health and manage stress.

Term 1 Review by Aroel Priambowo

Term 1 was full of surprises and adjustments. We had to unfortunately go back to lockdown in our first week of school but everything from there was starting to get better. We as a school bounced back from the almost full year lockdown we had last year. We didn’t have many events this term but the biggest highlight for me was swimming carnival since it was our first excursion in about a year where everybody enjoyed themselves. Personally, term 1 was a time of healing and getting used to being around a lot of people at once, it took time but I now enjoy coming to school. I look forward to my SACs in term 2 and studying hard so that I can succeed. I also look forward to Athletics and see what our students have to offer in terms of talent and athletic abilities. I wish all the participants good luck.
