Year 10 Art – Lino Printing
Students explored and experimented with the art practice of lino cutting and printing. They designed a music themed drawing to transfer onto the lino. Safely used the cutting tools and demonstrated various carving techniques. Printing of the lino involved the following process:
- Collect the following materials: roller, flat Perspex palette, ink, spatula, newspaper, print paper.
- Cover table with newspaper
- Use spatula to smear a teaspoon of ink onto the flat palette
- Use the roller to spread the ink across the whole roller surface
- Cover the lino with ink
- Press paper onto lino to make the print
- Make several prints using different colours, multiple colours on one print, etc.
- Put print onto drying rack to dry
- Wash all materials including your lino and wipe down the table.
- Record this process in your art/workbooks with sketches.
Students then evaluated their studio process by answering questions about their subject matter, meaning, influences, interpretation, inspiration, improvements, design and production challenges they overcame, recommendations and future goals for art making. These key knowledge and skills will prepare them for VCE Studio Arts for next year if they choose to embark on an inspired and fulfilling art industry career.
