Message from the Principal
May 2021
Lockdown period from Friday 28 May to Thursday 3 June inclusive.
I am writing to families in order to provide further information about our school operations for today and next week following the Premier’s announcement yesterday of a 7-day lockdown.
Yesterday the Premier and Minister of Education, Mr Merlino, announced that all Victorian schools will be moving to a seven-day period of lockdown from Friday 28 May to Thursday 3 June inclusive. At this stage, we plan to return to school next Friday 4 June 2021.
He also declared today, Friday 28 May, a pupil free day and next week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) remote learning days for students. As we did earlier this year, the College will continue to support the wellbeing of all our students and to ensure that, as much as possible, learning continues over these four school days.
Information that might be of assistance to you in talking to your child about COVID-19 is available. If you are concerned about your wellbeing or that of your child, please contact the school so we can talk with you about how we can best assist.
Other sources of support include: Parent Line 13 22 89 and Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800.
The Department COVID-19 helpline is also available on weekdays from 8:30am to 5pm on 1800 338 663. For families requiring interpreter support, interpreting services are available by phoning 131 450.
For families with a child with a disability, the Association for Children with a Disability (ACD) has additional information.
YOUR CHILD’S LEARNING
Our teachers will provide learning information to their students about activities during this time through our Compass School Portal. This will include learning material and instructions to consolidate the learning that has occurred so far this year.
Students have been provided with information on how to access class work on Compass previously. Log-in details and passwords have been checked and reissued. We have placed a video tutorial on the college’s website, http://www.kurunjangsc.vic.edu.au/ , for students and parents to locate classwork on Compass.
LOCKERS/SCHOOL ACCESS
If your child requires access to their locker to retrieve essential items to assist their learning, please contact the college and make appropriate arrangements.
If you require assistance at any stage, please contact the college on Email: kurunjang.sc@edumail.vic.gov.au and we will endeavour to contact you as soon as we are able.
RESOURCES TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD’S LEARNING AT HOME
The Department has a range of options for you to continue to support your child in their learning, available at the Learning from Home webpage.
A web page with Learning from Home tips is available at: Support your child’s learning. This is available in more than 30 languages on Translated advice about learning from home.
ON-SITE SUPERVISION
Our school will provide on-site supervision for students, from Monday to Thursday of next week, in the following categories:
- Children whose parents are considered permitted workers as listed, cannot work from home and where no other supervision arrangements can be made.
- Vulnerable children, including children in out-of-home care, children deemed by Child Protection and/or Family Services to be at risk of harm and children identified by the school as vulnerable (including via referral from a family violence agency, homelessness or youth justice service or mental health or other health service).
If you work in essential services and need to send your child to school, please contact Aylin Gokmen, the college’s Assistant Principal, to confirm your child’s attendance on these days. This will allow us to put appropriate arrangements in place.
And, finally, a reminder that if you, your child, or a family member develops symptoms of COVID-19 you should get tested at a COVID-19 testing facility and stay home.
Each family should regularly check the list of public exposure sites in Victoria (where a person with COVID- 19 has attended), and if anyone in the family has attended a site at the times listed, follow the instructions given.
Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s coordinator or contact the college if you have any concerns.
Yours sincerely,
John Mitsinikos
College Principal
