Victorian Archery Team

Jai Crawley

This is Jai's 4th year in Archery, and his 3rd year being selected for the Victorian State Team.  This year the Youth Nationals are being held in Burnie, Tasmania. Unfortunately last year the Nationals did not go ahead due to COVID, fingers crossed this year things will be different.

Jai shoots a Recurve bow, this is what is shot at the Olympics. He competes in the Cadet division ages 15-17.  There are 3 different disciplines that must be shot during Nationals.

  • Field Archery involves shooting at targets in a bush land environment at all different distances and angles.
  • Target Archery is the format most people are familiar with as they aim at a stationary target at set distances. The furthest distance for Target in Jai's category is the Olympic distance of 70metres.
  • Clout requires you to shoot arrows up into the air and have them land near flags on the ground. Jai will be shooting 145 metres in clout.

To compete well in Archery you must have both discipline and focus, which Jai has found to be a great help when it comes to his learning at school.  “Probably the best part of Archery are all the friends I have made, I really enjoy Nationals because I get to catch up with friends from all over Australia.”

“Most of my weekends are spent competing at different clubs around Victoria. I am very lucky to have such supportive parents who are willing to get me to all of the competitions”

Jai is also a member of the AARDP team which is the Archery Australia Regional Development Program. This program helps Archers with more intense coaching, training, correct exercise and advise, with the view of taking their sport further.

Jai is currently ranked:

 Nationally

#1 Field Cadet

#1 Indoor Cadet

State

#1 Target Cadet

#1 Field Cadet

#1 Indoor Cadet

Congratulation Jai

We are very proud of you and look forward to seeing your progress and success in 2021.
