Music

Year 7 and 8 Arts Academy 

Students have made a great start to Music this year! We have been working on the Musical Me task which helps us all get to know the musical side of each other in a format of the students' choice. It has been wonderful reading all of the: first concerts, favourite singers/bands, songs that motivate me and what instruments do I play, just to name a few. This week the music classes will be doing our 2021 Showcase item - 'Kuimba', an exuberant African-style original work which is about having an invitation to let music be our guide and sing together with joyful hearts. This will be a massed item between the two classes, with Year 7's singing and the Year 8's playing African percussion.

Year 9 Music Elective 

The students have completed a song analysis of their choice in 90's Week last week, together with an oral presentation explaining the elements of music in each song. We have now begun our Feedback Task for the term - a solo performance in our end of term class concert. 

Year 10 and VCE Music

What a busy time it has been with the students working on their Technical Exercises and ear training with various different websites and phone apps that they were able to use at home in our short remote learning time last week.

Instrumental Music

A huge congratulations to our new Year 7 music students who have joined our music program this year! They have all had their first few lessons now, and are sounding great on their chosen instruments. 

Remember to check Compass for your lesson times, and head down to the music building five minutes before your lessons starts so that you can set up your instrument ready to go. 

Years 8 - 12 students are already deep into their 2021 work, with some amazing scales, pieces and group work already developing. 

Incursions

Jazz Band Incursion

Tuesday 23rd March

Our Jazz Band will rehearse the 2021 repertoire for the whole school day towards our performances this year including Challenge Day, Orientation day, annual music concert, primary schools tour and open night. 

Concert Band Incursion

Tuesday 30th March 

This is such an amazing day for our new Year 7 wind, percussion and string students! Students participate in band rehearsals and tutorials, learning how to play as a band, follow a conductor's baton, learn new skills on their instrument and play a whole bunch of songs that only use 5 notes! It's a wonderful day getting to know the music teachers and each other. Parents/Guardians: you will be amazed at how much our beginners can improve after this incursion. 

Choir and Vocal Group Incursion 

Wednesday 31st March

The Choir and Vocal Group always have a busy performance calendar, and hopefully 2021 will be no different! Students will be rehearsing their repertoire for the year in preparation for the Annual Music Concert, Primary School tours, Awards Night and any Community Festivals that may be scheduled this year.
