Around The Primary

Dear Parents,

The last day of school - wow, it is so hard to believe that another school year has now ended! What a busy, rewarding and fun-filled 2020 it has been, thanks to the dedication and hard work of all our amazing staff; the enthusiasm and cooperation of our wonderful students; and the support of our fabulous John XXIII families.

To our Students – I’m very proud of each of you for trying so hard to achieve your personal best.  May you and your family laugh, pray, swim, read, play, explore, create, imagine and love a lot this Christmas and well into the New Year!

To our Year 6 Leaders - we congratulate you and wish you the very best that life has to offer! Keep on using the many life lessons that you have learnt here at Primary school.

To our Staff - thank you for all you have shared with our school community this year in so many different ways. On behalf of our families and students I wish you a well-earned holiday break.

To our Parents - thank you to everyone for their support throughout what has truly been an extraordinary year. Take care over the holidays and try to step back from all the rushing. May you and your family enjoy the holiday break, filled with all that brings you joy.

It’s now time to celebrate! We have achieved so much through hard work and creativity and we look forward to doing it all over again next year with lots of new things to look forward to.

May the new year be full of health, hope and happiness for all.

Merry Christmas!

Kind regards,

Antoinette De Pinto

Head of Primary

Year 4 Musical

This week all the Year 4 students performed in the musical extravaganza ‘A Very Elfie Christmas’.  I’m sure all parents and grandparents that came along to the show were amazed at the talents of our young students.

Congratulations to Ms Cattapan for writing and producing this superb musical. Special thanks to Mrs Haydon for sharing her amazing music skills.  Our appreciation is extended to the staff and parents for their hard work behind the scenes.  Well done to all the Year 4 students – you were all amazing on the big stage!  The audience was delighted with your magnificent and joyful musical.

Farewell Miss Dernie

To Miss Dernie who is leaving our community this year - thank you most sincerely for your contribution to our school. You have genuinely cared about the progress and well-being of each student and you have brought your own individual gifts to the learning adventure. We will miss you!

Zoo Much Fun

The Zoo was a great experience for us all, seeing the abundance of animals from the tiny penguins to the gigantic elephants. We participated in great team games which taught us team skills including looking out for others and giving people clear instructions. We were also lucky enough to receive a bandana from our team games which we can keep as souvenirs to remind us of Year 5. Everyone was keen to learn new facts about these magnificent animals.

Visiting the Perth Zoo was a wonderful experience with our friends and teachers. In the African Savannah area we saw so many amazing animals including painted dogs, rhinos, lions and more. Some of the highlights were the team building games and activities we all participated in. We even got to pat the python called Homer!  It was the best day of the year!

It was a fun learning experience doing various team building activities and looking and learning about the animals.

Caring for our Environment

Last Friday the Year One students had a visit from Penny McKeague who has done a lot of work with Sea Shepherd Marine Debris. The students have been corresponding with Penny this term about the care and sustainability of our oceans and environments.  The students also received a Boomerang Bag made from upcycled materials all the way from Albany! The students had a fabulous time and were very inspired to make a difference!

Photography Award

Congratulations to Tom Walsh (6G), joint winner of the 2020 Young Australian Arts Award Middle School Section Photography Award with his entry ‘Eye to Eye’.

It’s hard to believe, but in the new year we will be interviewing for siblings entering Kindy in 2023!

Please ensure your child/ren are enrolled to secure their sibling place.

The Enrolment Application, along with the Parish Priest Reference and other key details, can be found in this link.  Please direct further questions to Lizz Schollum, Enrolments Manager lizz.schollum@cewa.edu.au or 9383 0449.

Discovery Kids

It's hard to believe that we have come to the end of a very strange year.  Time has flown and even though there's been some pretty tough times, we have a lot to be grateful for. We are grateful for each other and grateful that you share your beautiful children with us, thank you.

A reminder that Vac Care bookings are open. Please ensure that you book your children in as soon as possible. Lots of incursions and excursions still have some COVID restrictions in place so we may have to cap numbers to accommodate this. Don't forget to sign the permission forms for each excursion. These will be allocated next to the sign in and out table. Vacation care will operate from Holy Rosary Primary School from Monday 14 to Friday 18 December. We will close for two weeks and recommence care on Monday 4 January 2021.

We would like to thank our staff for all the support and genuine care they have shown us and each other.  On behalf of the Discovery Kids Team, thank you for the support and care you have shown us.

We wish you a restful holiday and memorable times with your children. We wish you all health and happiness and a festive season full of faith and love and a wonderful start to 2021! We pray that the New Year leaves the memories of the past behind us and starts with hope for a new and healthy year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.

Josephine, Jessica and the Discovery Kids Team
