Learning in J29

Superstars

The J29 Superstars are pumped to be back in our happy place, our classroom, with one another!  We have come back ready to learn and grateful for every moment left in the 2020 school year!

Since coming back, J29 has had a big focus on identifying our emotions and recognising how we feel, look and sound when we are happy, sad, scared and angry.  We then chose a range of strategies that would help us calm down when feelings overwhelmed us by any of those emotions and displayed this on our Strategies Shield for us to always refer back to.

In Reading, we have had a big focus on recognising the genre of the text we read, asking questions before, during and after reading and creating an image in our minds for pictureless texts.  We enjoyed reading My Country by Dorothea Mackellar and a description of The Chocolate Room from The Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.

In Writing, we have been very engaged writing our Imaginary Recounts.  We each chose a destination which we would love to visit one day, completed some research to learn more about our chosen destination and then wrote a recount to pretend we had visited it!  We worked hard on ensuring we used interesting words in our writing to hook our readers in and keep them engaged.

In Maths, we have had a big focus on Division and using different strategies to help us share amounts equally.  We are now able to use the ‘repeated subtraction’, share between’, ‘groups of’ and ‘arrays’ strategy when working out how to share amounts equally.

All in all, we are so happy to be back and so proud of how well we have transitioned back into our classroom routine
