Learning in M32

Mrs Lloyd

Middle School M32 Lloyd is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

We have become very focused learners in M32!

In M32, we have enjoyed being back in our classroom this term.  We are working hard as a team to achieve our class SMART goals.  It has been so pleasant to see so many of our students engaging with our resiliance project sessions and receiving their SWPB Gold, Silver and Bronze Froggy Dollar certificates.  Congratulations to Charlotte, Christine, Jack, Karly, Ekam, Mia, Diing, and Jaxson on receiving their GOLD awards!

In Reading, students have focused on Reciprocal Reading and non-fiction text types. Using their student voices, each group chose a book that they all had a common interest in.  Every week, students meet in their groups, read and complete their assigned role. Students have learnt the role of the Summariser, Clarifier, Illustrator, Predictor and Questioner.

Here are some of our students' thoughts:

“I like that we get to share our ideas as a group at the end of the week.’’
Grace
"I like that we get to work together while reading a text that we have chosen.’’
Amelia
"I enjoy doing the different roles each week. It is FUN!’’
James

In Writing, we having been exploring Persuasive Text types.  Students have learnt how to develop a strong argument using opinions, reasons and evidence.  We learnt how to use persuasive language and devices to engage our audience.  Some of the devices we have focused on include; emotive language, exaggeration, rhetorical questions and rule of three.

In Numeracy, students are excelling in their unit of fractions.  Students have focused on using their student agency skills to guide their independent learning goals and ‘ZPD’ activities.  Last week, we learnt how to add and subtract fractions with like and unlike dominators, as well as find fractions of collections.

Lastly, recently we celebrated NAIDOC Week.  As a class, we celebrated the culture, history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.  Students celebrated and learnt about aboriginal history, art and Dreamtime stories.

Both Miss Belinda and I are so proud of the way students collaborate in their small group activities and independent class learning.  Keep up the focused learner attitude M32.  You are becoming great leaders!
