District Athletics Carnival

Over the past 3 weeks I have been trialling and training students for the District Athletics Sports, which is on next Tuesday September 3rd.  We have been training down at the Croydon Little Athletics track every Wednesday night after school.  Thank you to the parents who have assisted with the transport of some children who otherwise couldn’t get there.  This was a great help.  We have 95 students attending the sports next week, however there are still 58 as of today who have not been given consent or paid for this event.  Could parents please get onto Compass and compete this so that all the students who have trained so hard, can attend.  We hope that we don’t have to leave any students behind due to a lack of consent and payment.  We wish all the students the best of luck on the day.

Teeball Finals

Well done to the Girls Teeball Team, who won their District and Division finals and competed at the Eastern Region Finals on Monday.  They drew their first game, lost a game and won a game, so had quite a diverse result for the day.  Well done girls for competing so well - this is a very high level of competition.  Thank you to the parents who assisted with transporting the children, Joanne Taylor and Penny Pierce.  Also thank you to Aaron Halstead, who also assisted the girls on the day.

State Schools Netball Championships

On Wednesday September 4th, our successful Boys Netball team will be competing at the State Schools Netball  Championships finals.  Thank you to Kali Fraser for organising the event and best of luck to the team.

Performing Arts News

Exciting times ahead in Performing Arts! Students involved with State School Spectacular (SSS) had their second mass rehearsal at Melbourne Town Hall, this time students began learning their choralography (choir choreography).  The students are now hard at work putting the finishing touches on all the songs for SSS, as production week and the two shows at Melbourne Arena are a mere two weeks away!!

Tickets are still available for both shows:  the matinee is at 1pm and the evening show commences at 6:30pm on 14th September. https://premier.ticketek.com.au/Shows/Show.aspx?sh=STATESCH19

Dance Club

A huge congratulations to our Dance Captains who received their badges last week, they are hard at work choreographing numbers for Dance Club, a new initiative to expand and show case all areas of Performing Arts at CHPS.

Music Across the School

In the classroom Junior students are nearing the end of their Everyone Can Play Guitar unit and are working towards being able to play a 3-chord progression.  Middle students are hard at work at developing their class band medley. Some have learnt 4 chord progressions on Guitar and Piano, others have learnt how to play the chord progression as octaves on Glockenspiel and Marimba. Senior students have dove in deep into composing music for film using GarageBand. They have also been expanding their musical vocabulary, this week learning about Monophonic, Homophonic and Polyphonic music textures.

Golden Ticket Competition Update

All the Golden Tickets have now been won and, unlike in the book ‘Charlie & the Chocolate Factory’ I can guarantee that there were no fake tickets presented. Our final Golden Ticket winner was Elaine L from MLS who borrowed the book ‘The Biography of Chocolate’.

Prizes will be awarded at our Celebration Assembly tomorrow.
