Assistant Principal's Message

Planning for 2019

We are in the middle  of another busy and exciting term. We have begun planning some details for the all new Lyndhurst Academy which will start in 2019.  Students have made their selections and we are now ordering resources in preparation for the start of next year. Students will develop critical personal, critical thinking and leadership skills in a range of areas including basketball, cooking, coding and performing arts.

We have started to have conversations with students on how best to engage the community through our academies. The NRL and AFL have been involved in initial planning phase and will be involved next year with our rugby and AFL academies respectively. We have appointed a Hindi teacher who will lead us in this area next year.

Hindi Program

I would like to welcome Aruna Malhotra to our School Community. I would also like to thank Rangebank Primary School for helping us with the establishment of the Hindi Program. We hope that this cluster partnership will go on long into the future. Students will experience a vibrant and engaging curriculum in this area next year and deepen their understanding of the Australian experience through an immersion in the culture and language of India and Asia.

Next year also sees the introduction of Live Reporting and Progress Reports. This will allow students to receive timely and detailed feedback on their learning behaviours and also their understanding in all curriculum areas through the course of each Semester. We hope that this will give students greater agency with their learning as they are able to understand more deeply what is needed for the ‘next step’ and maximise progression.

In 2019, all feedback will be available soon after each common assessment task (CAT) is submitted on Compass. Semester reports as well as Progress Reports will also be available at regular intervals on Compass and will replace the traditional paper reports. I hope everyone continues to have a positive and productive term as I have.

CurioUS Project

As reported in last months newsletter, 11 students from Year 7 – 11 were selected as leaders of a new pilot project with CMY (Centre for Multicultural Youth) called CurioUS.

on 31st October,  6 students within the Multipride and CurioUS team, travelled to the Multicultural Hub in the city to meet with the 2 other schools and CMY for their community of practice day for the CurioUS Project.  While they were there, students presented ideas about possible initiatives that they are going to implement into the college to help with belonging, representation and racism.

We are really looking forward to seeing how this project will unfold and what the student leaders can achieve.

Uniform changes

The College Council has undertaken a review of the Lyndhurst Secondary College uniform in consultation with students, staff and parents with the new uniform to be phased in commencing 2019.
