During the evening two awards were presented, these being the Lorraine Francis Community Award and the Long Tan Award, congratulations to Taylah and Tash!
Lorraine Francis Community Award
This award is presented each year at schools in the Bentleigh electorate and was presented to Taylah by Nick Staikos MP. The recipient, nominated by the teachers, is someone who has demonstrated strong leadership, been involved in causes that improve the lives of others in the community and, most importantly, been a strong role model for other students. Taylah could not have been a more worthy recipient.
When you visit the college, the first thing you see is a series of flags, including the Aboriginal and Pride flags...this is thanks to Taylah. She has worked hard to ensure that her school is a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. She is proud of her Indigenous culture and has actively promoted inclusivity and respect at school. Taylah has been a college leader for many years and values student voice and the impact it can have.
Congratulations Taylah, you sure have left a lasting impression, thank you for your passion for so many relevant causes and issues and for upholding the college values.
Long Tan Award
This award was initiated by the Australian Government in conjunction with the Australian Defence Force and is designed to encourage senior students – tomorrow’s leaders – to actively participate in the life of their schools and local communities.
Tash has been involved in both school and community-based projects to raise awareness of important issues.
