NAPLAN results | How to get involved
School Council sends our best wishes to the Chelt.Sec community. We hope everyone is keeping safe and well. If you need support at this time, please contact School.
At recent School Council meetings, our key topics have included
I thought you might like to find out more about our recent NAPLAN results. NAPLAN is the National Assessment Program, Literacy and Numeracy - a measure of school population trends.
For 2022 Chelt.Sec’s participation rates were high, in line with previous years.
Our 2022 data shows us that the incoming Year 7s:
For our Year 9 students, we can see:
Along with individual student results and other general testing, NAPLAN information helps inform how teachers support this cohort and how school leadership plans and invests for the future. We always knew this data would be revealing for these students, who lost two critical years of in-person schooling due to the pandemic. We can’t measure student improvement as we normally do, because we don’t have previous data for these students’ year levels (for this Year 9 cohort, there was no Year 7 NAPLAN in 2020). So school teaching staff are working extra hard to interpret results and plan in response.
At Chelt.Sec there are a number of strategies underway to continually improve teaching and learning:
At the moment most of our Year 12s are wrapping up their exams and school journey. Last year’s VCE median study score was a little over 30, placing Chelt’s results adjacent to and higher than our neighbouring schools. While it was rewarding to see everyone’s hard work reflected in such a strong result, we all know our students are so much more than their VCE exam scores. Whatever results we see from the 2022 group, we will be proud and excited for them as they embark on the next stage.
