2022 ‘Visual Arts & Technology Exhibition’

‘WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD’, was the theme for our amazing ‘Visual Arts & Technology Exhibition’ this year. The exhibition was a great success and a wonderful celebration of the creative and skillful talent of both our Visual Arts & Technology students. After two difficult years of separations due to Covid, it was heartwarming to see our Killester College community, families and friends able to join together in celebration. The ground floor of the Helen Toohey Building was transformed into a gallery space and the new outdoor Atrium became a fashion runway. Both areas showcased our students' work amongst a nature inspired environment.

‘What a Wonderful World’, was born from our joy & excitement of being able to engage in nature and the wonderful world around us once again after 2 years of lockdown.Guests also enjoyed delicious food and beverages prepared by the talented VET Hospitality students and music by the Senior Contemporary Music Group playing under the guidance of Dave Seedsman and Katy Addis.

I would like to thank our dedicated teaching staff in the Visual Arts who have taught our students with a passion for the Visual Arts to inspire each student to reach their potential; Fros Stabologlou, Kerrilee Pearson, Brooke Scott, Elissa Galante and Vi Lam. Thanks is also extended to our wonderful and supportive Technicians Loretta Hill and Ersilia Cincotta, the Maintenance and ‘IT’ teams. It takes many hours of work and many people to stage such an event.

I would further like to acknowledge and thank our wonderful leadership team under the guidance of Sally Buick and our Business Manager, Sandra Rotunno, who support our vision and help make our curriculum a reality.

A wonderful night was had by all!

Visual Communication Design

VCD A Incursion

Hoffy AKA Jess Lowther, is a graphic designer by trade who focuses on creating contemporary design and murals. Our Year 7 and 8 Visual Communication Design students were fortunate enough to hear about Jess’ stories, design journey and branding.

One of Jess’ creations is a calendar and our students had the opportunity to design, collaborate and create one together. Using either paper or Adobe Illustrator, students workshopped a design based on a brief that required the calendar to be nature-inspired.

Students could experiment with water-colours, tissue paper, markers and digital platforms to create their final design.

Painting and Print Making

Students from the Year 10 elective Painting and Printmaking, followed the art process to finalise their original and creative compositions for the serigraphy printmaking unit.

Students had the choice of drawing their design manually (pencil on paper) or digitally (using Adobe Illustrator). Using the digital thermal printer, each colour of the composition was printed separately onto two screens. For example, with a red and white composition- one screen had the red section of the composition printed onto the first screen and the white section printed onto the second screen. When printing their artwork, students carefully registered their prints to ensure the colours of their design were perfectly aligned, reflecting their original concept. With assistance from their classmates, their designs were printed using fabric inks onto black or calico fabric bags.
