IMPACT News

October  2022

The IMPACT students have been very busy since the start of the school term.

On Geelong Cup Day some of our Year 7-10 IMPACT students had the opportunity to go to Melbourne to watch Harry Potter and The Cursed Child at the Princess Theatre. The verdict was unanimous .... the students LOVED the show. Some feed back from students was

"I absolutely loved Harry Potter and the cursed child, the cast were so lively and so kind, they really brought the play to life. The chemistry between the characters was amazing, I loved when the dementor came down from the ceiling, it really made you feel like you were there in Hogwarts. When they were teleporting through the telephone box it was amazing and t had me question how they did it. The show was amazing, and I would love to see it again". Ella

"A phenomenal show that exceeded my expectations. The actors' performances were so powerful and heartfelt. I especially loved the part where the family reconciled with each other. The most memorable was when the dementors were hovering over the audience, it made me feel like we were part of the show. The crew of special effects did an awesome job on the flames and clock working, that shook the whole place. Overall, it was the most magical performance I have ever seen". Julia

YEAR 7/8

Some of our Year 7/8 IMPACT students have been working with one of our former students Lochlan  Erard. Lochie has had an incredible life since leaving school, dancing in many places including on cruise ships, all over the world. Lochie has been sharing his very talented dance skills, as well talking about his pathway that he followed and where is passion for dance has taken him.

YEAR 9

Our Year 9 students worked with a local art therapist to learn the skill of tie dying. Students' creative skills came out in their own designs of their t-shirts , pillow cases and bags as they learnt the best way to create the different patterns and effects through their tie dye.

YEAR 10

Last month's International Children's Week had the Year 10 IMPACT class became event planners and conceived, organised and implemented a program with the Northern Bay College Early Learning Centre in Goldsworthy Road.. Over our three days students planned a series of Art / Craft activities as well music and dancing activities for the four-year-old students in our school to learn and enjoy. Our Year 10's were very enthusiastic about providing these activities for the kinder students, as much as the kinder students enjoyed having our Year 10 come over. There were lots of smiles and our students learnt how hard it was to plan a program that was going to suit everyone and how they had to alter it at times to suit everyone in the group. Our class was rewarded with this beautiful Thank you card made by the Kindergarten students, which will be displayed in our Arts Department.

However the highlight for Year 10 was the Melbourne Arts Camp in early October.

Melbourne Arts Camp

This was the culmination of 2 years of gaining understanding about multiple aspects of the Arts and the various pathways taken by people in the Arts Industry.

Particular thanks to Mr Diamond who drove the school bus to the city and stayed with us till after we had been to be audience members at the project on Channel 10 with a live screening.

Mr Sapwell was terrific coming to get us and drive us back.

While we were in the city it was not the best of Spring weather - but wet and windy we still had a great time.

The activities included a class at RMIT, attending Come From Away - a terrific live theatre show. We went to Acme and to the National Gallery and caught fresh air on Southbank. We had a sensational experience at Artvo and a bit of relaxed enjoyment at the Cats Cafe (yes it is overrun with cats)

Mr Marco Polo (or should I say Mr Diamond) also led us on a Scavenger hunt in the city art areas and a relaxing mountain HIKE!!! through the beautiful Botanic Gardens.

One of the highlights was of course Artvo with the amazing optical illusions
