Year 7 - 9 Community

October  2022

Dear community of students, families, staff and friends,

Much of the emphasis in our Stage of Schooling (7-9) is around Year 8. There are mixed emotions for this cohort of students. Some have spent 9 years of their lives on their home campus and although there is so much that that Northern Bay College does to provide a seamless transition to Goldsworthy's Year 9 program including:

  • Extended School Day
  • Specialist Program,
  • SEED,  and many more

 - there will still be a grief being experienced by the students as they prepare to farewell their base campus. For many parents too this could be the end of a very long relationship with the campus. There is every possibility that older brothers and sisters went there and now this last child will leave Hendy, Peacock, Tallis or Wexford.

We have some comments from students at Tallis about the feelings they have. ALL POSITIVE - WHICH IS TERRIFIC

Going to Goldsworthy for transition was an amazing experience! Meeting our teachers as well as other students we will be with next year was also a great experience.

Transition was great. When we arrived, I saw my sibling there, he told us where things were, it was nice to be back at school with him. I enjoyed running around the school, we were given food and drinks after from the teachers, it was awesome.

When we arrived at Goldsworthy, we chatted with our future year 9 leader, then proceeded to begin our scavenger hunt which was all about finding important locations around the school, to assist with our transition next year. I enjoyed the day and look forward to the next transition date and step up week.

However Year 8 is not finished yet and there is still a lot to achieve before Step-Up.

There have been some  great things going on already this term. Here are a few of them which lend themselves to photography.

Hockey

On the day of the hockey game, I was quite anxious but we were prepared for the game and I was hoping that we could at least score a goal and make some friends from the other campuses. In the end I did make a lot of friends. We scored a goal against the hardest team to beat and I was very thankful for the coach we had. I'm also very thankful for the staff that came and cheered us on as we played.

Cricket

In week 4 we had an interschool sports competition. I was lucky enough to be selected for the NBC cricket side. We played at Eastern Park in Geelong against Western Heights. Unfortunately we only got to play one game because we lost our first round. There was some great bowling and batting, the stand out was Henry who almost took a Hat-trick. Thanks to Brad who took us, it was a great day.

Secondary Programs At the GITTC

Throughout the year students in years 7 and 8 have been attending the Geelong Industry Trade Training Centre (GITTC) to undertake their elective subjects in Food Technology, Visual Communication, Wood Technology, Media, Digital Technologies, Robotics and Materials and Textiles

Here are some of the students at work in the different subjects this semester

YEAR 8 GRADUATION

Year 8 on all campuses are getting ready for their cerebration / graduation night. A highlight is always the memories that they present on video and of course each student gets presented with a current photo - AND one when they first started school! always very enjoyable.
