Diversity Week and more

MSC Diversity Week Celebration

Despite previous years with the COVID pandemic impacting large gatherings, the MSC were very fortunate to successfully hold the annual Cultural Diversity Week celebration last week where we welcomed community leaders, and organisations to celebrate the diverse cultural heritages we have at our school. We started the proceedings on Monday with smoking ceremony from our indigenous elder and welcome to the country prior to our whole school assembly. We heard from dignitaries such as the Victorian Multicultural Commissioner Ms Vivienne Nyugen; Emergency Management Victoria Commssioner Andrew Crisp; Mayor of Melton Mr Goran Kesic; State Member for Melton; and Victoria Police Inspector for Melton Lisa Prentice-Evans along with many other prominent community members in the local school and communities.

Our college staff embraced and shared their own cultural food. More information can be found here: https://vimeo.com/760704821. Congratulations to the senior students for winning the Diversity Week FIFA Video Games Cup against the Juniors.

The offered opportunities provide student with unique experience and skills in accessing diverse holiday activities from our partner organisations such as Melbourne Victory FC, North Melbourne Football Club with The Huddles, Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, and Mushroom Group, and North Melbourne Football Club.  School holiday programs are part of increasing student participation and wellbeing in boosting their self-esteem, confidenence and social emotional learning while being supported by their mentors and their buddies.

Emmanuel Jal’s MSC Tour.

Our students were very fortunate and privileged to have listened to Emmanuel’s remarkable journey of perseverance where he has overcome the adversity being a former war child, a true testimony of the words “courage and resilience".  Students and staff were inspired by Emmanuel's miraculous journey: https://vimeo.com/749635777 .  Many thanks to all the staff members who supported the event, as it was a worthwhile experience for students who needed a sense of inspiration listening to Emmanuel’s rare life experience and succeeding in spite of the hardships.
