Principal's Report

Welcome to term 4!

The weather has certainly taken a slight turn for the worst this week but despite this, there has been quite a lot going on around the college and this will continue right up to the end of the year.

Over the break, we ran our Central Australia tour with 39 Year 10 and 11 students and 7 staff. I feel so privileged to have been able to lead this experience which, initially, had been a source of significant stress and worry but ended up being one of the highlights of my time here at the college. We had such an amazing time and were able to experience things that were a long way away from the everyday for all of us. The students were fantastic and threw themselves into each and every experience offered. I was so proud of all of them. i would also like to thank the staff who willingly gave of their time to attend the camp alongside me. To Ms Lawson, Ms Repalust, Mr Meagher, Mr Ikin, Ms Ho, and Mr Vaughns, I thank you for all that you brought to the camp by way of enthusiasm, support and energy. I could not have done it without you. Please check out the article later in this edition for further details.

As we enter into the final quarter of the year, it is important to acknowledge that this period is one that is especially important to our senior students and, particularly, our Year 12 students. Across all subjects, classes have begun the revision and exam preparation process for VCE classes and VCAL classes are working to finalise their requirements as well as all students enter this final straight. In the coming weeks we will be holding a number of events to recognize and celebrate the achievements of our Year 12 cohort including celebration day and valedictory. We will also be running exams in the HOPE centre, beginning with the English exam on the 26th of October.

We wish the Year 12 cohort all the best for these next few weeks and remind them that we are especially proud of the efforts that they have made across these past few years and that we are here to support them as needed.

This term sees quite a number of big events occurring with athletics competitions already started, and more camps and excursions than is typical for any one term or even year! Please note that every year level will have had a whole cohort camp in 2022 and those that are running this term are all ones being provided for free from the Positive Start Initiative. These camps are being run as the regular program for these year levels and are an important experience to support the engagement and wellbeing of students. The camps have been designed to ensure that all students can access engaging activities that stretch them just enough and provide plenty of opportunity for student bonding and engagement. Please make sure to check your Compass account for any permissions required. We do expect that all students will attend these camps as part of their program. There will be no alternative program running back at school while these camps are running.

The Year level camps running this term include:

  • Year 11 camp to Anglsea (sand, sun and surfing)
  • Year 10 camp to Anglesea
  • Year 9 camp to Kinglake Adventure Camp

In addition to these camps, we also have a student leadership camp running with Rubicon outdoor education centre, we have had a Sports Academy Camp running this week, and we also have outdoor education camps running as well. A very busy term indeed!
