Hello to our WPS families

Production

We have settled well into our final term for 2022 with very few students or staff away across all our levels.  In fact, it feels very much like a 'normal' term at this point and we hope to ride the calm wave as long as possible.  Having said that, with the approaching Production, the children are working hard on their dances, lines and choruses.  Kirsty is putting in a mammoth effort, as she always does, offering additional rehearsals well above and beyond her usual workload.  There is also a huge amount of work behind the scenes setting up online ticket sales, advertising, purchasing and making props, ordering costumes, working out the lighting and the backstage requirements for the one-night only performance.

Volleyball win

Our Volleyball team have made it to the Regionals finals having beaten Serpells PS and Donvale Christian College.  It's very impressive, given the story behind how the team was formed.  Click onto the Sports page of the newsletter to read an account of their journey so far by Nash and James in 4/5N.

All the information you need related to rehearsal schedules and ticket purchases are on the Performing Arts page in this newsletter.  Please take a look so that you know what's happening in the lead up to it.  The children are all very excited and the standard which I see and hear when I walk through the Bampi is exceptional.  We have a very talented cast and the dances are energetic and incredibly entertaining. If you haven't purchased your tickets, please do so soon as the sales have been very high, having sold nearly 600 seats already.

Unexpected Swimming cancelation

We had some disappointing news about the grade 3 - 6 swimming program being canceled unexpectedly due to equipment breakdown at the Carey Swimming Complex.  While we can't get a booking for another swimming complex at such short notice, Davide has been very resourceful and is now planning an excursion to the beach for all grade 3-6 students to practice water safety with Surf Lifesaving Australia. Details and dates will come out shortly but it is anticipated this excursion will be towards the final weeks of term.

 Class structures for 2023

We have come to that time of year where people begin to wonder about what the class structures for 2023 might look like.  While we have not made any final decisions around this, we have begun the planning process.  The first step is to look at the enrolment numbers for next year and the numbers in each cohort.  This plays the biggest part in determining what we can and can't do.  The staff and I then brainstorm what possible combinations of classes are viable.  I then begin the process and costing each scenario and putting the figures up against the indicative budget for 2023.  The process is very complex and we need to be financially responsible but also find the best educational outcome for our students.  Next week I will be sending through further information about this process and the transition schedule for later in the term.  We commit to communicating decisions and consultation process' with our families each step of the way.  Look out for my post to families on Compass next week for the details of our scheduled transition sessions and parent request protocols.

Storms

Our school was untouched by the storms late this week and there have been no reported leaks internally.  Our gutters and drains stood the test and the biggest impact for us was only that the children did not get much of a chance to play outdoors this week.  Thankfully we had the leaks in our roofing repaired last year, so apart from a small leak in the Prep room, we have not been impacted by this heavy rain.  However, if you and your family are experiencing flood damage and there is anything the school can do to support you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

I hope you have a safe and dry weekend.

Take care,

Nieta
