STATE ATHLETICS

The sun was shining for McKinnon on Monday 17 October when twenty of our finest athletes represented the school at the State track and field finals. We were off to a great start, getting medals in the first four out of four events. Alice Hollingsworth (Year 9), Rosie O'Brien (Year 8) and Dorothy Du (Year 9) winning Silver in the hurdles, long jump and high jump, and Year 12 students Stephanie Baker winning Gold in her favourite event, shot put, to become the best in the State!

Another four Silver medals were won not long after, Allegra Orso (Year 9) and Alice Hollingsworth in the 100m, Rosie O'Brien in Triple jump and Finn Sharp (Year 9) in Javelin. Eight from eight events was an incredible way to go into the afternoon's events.

Matt Day (Year 12) rounded out the individual medals for the day, winning Silver in the 400m with a great run.

Congratulations to Mica Regev (Year 7), Kiara Malhotra (Year 7), Evie Haywood (Year 7), Rosie O'Brien (Year 8), Angelique Griffs (Year 8), Allegra Orso (Year 9), Sabrina Vitiello (Year 8) and Daniela Tapia Leal (Year 8).

The final event of the day. The scene was set - Year 12 Boys Relay. They won in 2019 and after two years of no finals, they were hoping to back it up. Seamus O'Brien got the team off to a flying start, with a perfect baton exchange to Lucas Orso. Tom Howells rounded the bend in a Top 3 position and completed the final exchange to Matt Day first.

With 100m to go it was one of the tightest finishes all day and Matt broke through in the final 10m with an incredibly impressive run, giving it absolutely everything, clinching the win for the team and the school!

Congratulations to these boys who will finish their schooling as State Champions!
