ANOTHER GROK CHALLENGE

Web.Comp is here!

This is the second Web.Comp, so if you haven’t attempted this before, here’s your chance to give it a try. Even if you have done the Web.Comp before, there is an intermediate level challenge so that you can extend what you did during the beginner's stage.

Web.Comp started on Monday 24 October and will run until Sunday 20 November. Thank you to those who have signed up already, it’s not too late to sign up now as we will still be in week 1 of the competition. So, if you still want to join in, please email me.

It is a 4-week competition, so it will fly by!

You can follow it up by competing in a 1-week Design Tournament which will run from Sunday 21 November until Sunday 27 November.

In the competition, students learn design principles and HTML/CSS, the powerful building blocks needed to build a website from scratch.

The competition is offered in two streams: Beginner and Intermediate.

If you’re interested please email hmn@mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au or come and find me in A4 and I will sign you up.

YEAR 10 INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Mr Russo has been taking the Year 10s through various topics, such as Networks, an extension of Python Programming and the theoretical components storing data in digital formats such as binary and hexadecimal. The semester-based course has attracted students with varying levels of understanding.

Below are excerpts from our current Year 10 students:

“In our Python programming unit, we used Grok to help us learn all the different nuances of the Python computer language. As each different challenge appeared we worked tirelessly to find the most efficient way to answer the question. As each person had a slightly different approach to the problems, we learned different strategies to use for every conceivable scenario. We had a fantastic time as we learned a whole new language and worked together to solve puzzles as a class.”

“Throughout the last term, students in information systems have been enhancing their python programming skills with the use of GROK learning. This has challenged students to learn how to ask questions that can be responded to, sort through things and access separate files with python coding. With most of the year making it through the first level of beginner’s python programming after only beginning to learn a few months ago, it is really impressive! Congratulations to all students who completed their learning with GROK and even made it to the intermediate or advanced levels of Python programming in GROK.”
