Engaging boarder voice – prep

Last week I had mentioned the power of boarders’ becoming agents in the decision-making process with prep. I am happy to report this is working very well indeed. So well, that our House Mothers, Lise Lowe and Annita Jones have set up an engaging space for our younger boarders to either work independently or collaboratively. Our Year 7 and 8 boarders complete their prep with Lise and Annita in one of our cabins that have been refurbished to assist boarders concentrate and complete homework.

In visiting our boarders in the midst of study I have been taken by the intensity of their concentration. With study lasting from 7pm to 8pm it is a short and sharp period of time before they race out to the basketball or tennis courts for some activity; which is encouraged with day-light savings time. Not only do boarders complete prep but they are also working through their Lifeskills Program.

Our Lifekskills Program emphasises the skills for life within and beyond boarding school. The range of activities on offer is designed to challenge our younger boarders and encourage communication, initiative, responsibility, ethical behaviour, and organisation. Below is an outline of our lifeskills program which is also available on our College website.
