Netball

Eliza Sobey was not able to give her speech during the recent Sports Award Assembly, so an edited version of her presentation is given here.

The 2022 Netball season for The Hamilton and Alexandra College has been a very successful one, with all teams playing high quality netball and developing well. The Saturday Morning Junior Netball Competition in Term One was successful for the school and all age groups had a fantastic season. The College Magpies under 13 team had a great run, winning many games. The Vixens and Swifts also played well over the season.

The 2022 Regional School Championship Tournament earlier this year was a victorious day for the school. The Year 9/10 and the Year 7/8 teams both had a great day, full of wins. The teams had been training hard for this and their dedication showed on the court over the course of the day; they should all be proud of their amazing efforts. The senior team, consisting of Year 11 and 12 students, with the addition of Chloe Frost and Bella O’Sullivan, also had an amazing day - winning all of their games and getting through to the State Championships in Melbourne.

On 20 August the eager team headed off to the State Championships. The competition was tough, but it was a great experience and the girls should be very proud of their efforts. A big thank you to Mrs Hausler and Miss Couchman for taking the team down and the organisation required to get them there.

We have some amazing parent helpers (managers, umpires, coaches) who support the teams throughout the year - as players we extend our heartfelt thanks to them; our teams would not take the court without their willingness to take on a role of responsibility. Some students have also assisted with umpiring and coaching this season, which is an acknowledgement of them wanting to give back to the sport and to help the development of other players.

And finally thank you to every student involved in netball this season, you should all be proud of yourselves. The school certainly has a bright future in netball.

Cricket

The 2022/23 Cricket season has kicked off with the weather being the dominant force thus far. The recent rains have meant that many grounds are not yet ready for matches, and it has led to the cancellation of the ICCES Summer Carnival and the GD Super 8s day for the Year 7 & 8 students, as well as the first round matches for both the College U14 teams.

Many students have put in strong off-season preparation and will be rearing to get their seasons off to a big start next week. Team trainings are now in full swing and students are encouraged to attend all team training sessions and make sure they communicate with their coaches if they are unable to attend.
