Arts and Design Technology Showcase

Last night, we had the pleasure of celebrating all things artistic and creative.

Our Annual Arts and Design Technology showcase was a great success and I extend a big THANK YOU to all our amazing students and staff who helped to make the event so enjoyable and memorable. After two years of virtual exhibitions, it was lovely to welcome families back to school to view the event, live!.

The Brigidine Centre was transformed into an Art Gallery and Performance space, enabling members of our community to come together and enjoy the many musical performances, view the fabulous artwork, watch the movie trailers and admire the creations made from metal and wood.

This evening, again, showcased student’s work, from Foundation to Year 12, and included pieces that had been designed, manufactured and created in Visual Arts, Visual Communication Design, Media, Technology Wood and Metal, Food Technology and Performing Arts.

This year, our Art and Design Technology showcase was opened by local artist, Troy Firebrace.

Troy was born in Shepparton and his love of art started as a kid, always sketching in his school books. It wasn’t until Years 11 and 12 that Troy started to explore painting more and this soon became a hobby.

After finishing school, Troy enrolled at GOTAFE in Shepparton to complete a Diploma in Sport and Recreation. This led to being offered two positions at LaTrobe University, in Bendigo, a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Visual Arts. Over these three years, Troy’s art style developed, exploring different art styles and mediums, leading Troy to eventually find his own style, concept and motivation. During this time, Troy started to have exhibitions to showcase his work at Kaiela Gallery, Melbourne Museum and Dudley House in Melbourne. Troy’s art gained lots of attention and he started taking commissions from clients all across Victoria.

After completing his Bachelor in Creative Arts, with a Major in Fine Art, Troy is now studying a Masters of Teaching - Secondary and hopes to pursue a career as an artist but, also, to provide cultural learning and education to students.

Troy shared with us aspects of his amazing journey and reinforced to our students the importance of following their dreams and passions and to strive for success in all they do.

We also had the pleasure of announcing our Principal’s Choice Awards for 2022.
