Primary Athletics

Years 3-6 Campaspe Division Athletics

The stage was set last term for a big day of athletics in Bendigo and our students didn’t disappoint. It was a great achievement by all 27 students who competed well at district level and made it through to this round of regional competitions. Students were very keen to get their events underway as the temperature hit below freezing. This didn’t stop any students from giving it their all in every event that they were in and we saw some excellent results come out of the day. More importantly, many smiles and laughs were shared from all the students all day.

Congratulations to our place getters for the day:

Lily - triple jump 1st, relay 2nd and 100m 1st

Mia - long jump 1st, relay 2nd and hurdles 1st

It was a great day for all as they did very well in all events. All students who finished in the top two headed back to Bendigo early in Term 4 to compete in the next level. Everyone should be very proud of our up and coming olympians.

Loddon Mallee Regional Athletics

The Years 3-6 regional athletics were held in Bendigo on 10th October. The sun was shining as all 15 St Augustine's students began preparing for their events. All students were great in their events and gave it their all. After many broken PBs we had eight students going through to the state level - a fantastic effort.

Congratulations to Immogen, Riley, Maddi and Clay as well as our relay team consisting of Mia, Olivia, Sienna and Lily.

State Athletics Carnival

Several students competed at the State primary athletics carnival on Wednesday of this week.  We will include a  detailed report from this event in the next newsletter.

Secondary Athletics

Loddon Mallee Regional Athletics

The Loddon Mallee Regional Athletics were held in Bendigo on 6th October, pushing through terrible conditions. The rain didn’t bother the students as they were keen to put their skills on display against great competitors.

Well done to Grace, Cooper, Riley M, Jordan, Riley W and Cyrhil who placed in the top three in their events. Congratulations to Jordan who qualified for the state championships after placing first in triple jump. It was great to see so many students make it to this level and they should be very proud of their efforts!

State Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to Year 12 student Jordan O'Neill who competed at the recent Secondary State Athletics carnival. Jordan competed in the triple jump and came 6th, beating his personal best jump with a distance of 10.92m.

Due to several road closures, Jordan and his mum detoured through several dirt roads to reach Melbourne to compete. That is dedication!

Year 8 Loddon Mallee Basketball

Our Year 8 boys team finally got the chance to compete at the next stage at the Bendigo Stadium in Week 4 of this term.

The boys were nervous on arriving at the stadium as it was the first time they had played at the amazing venue.  On entering the stadium, the boys soon figured out that height and size were not on their side claiming ‘we look like a Year 7 team!’. Unfortunately, a couple of injuries and illnesses meant three members of the original team were unable to play.

After a decent warm up, we moved into our first game against Maryborough Education Centre (MEC). Early in the match the boys competed well and were able to consistently hit the scoreboard. MEC had two excellent players who controlled most of their play. Cooper and Isaac took the reins and lead our play with Jimmy and Marley crashing the boards and working hard through the key. Oscar, Dylan and Will were given the role of being the ’pests’ and harrassed and pressured the ball carriers consistently. At half time the boys were down by 20 points. After this they came out firing with Cooper consistently hitting the scoreboard with some brilliant outside shooting. At one stage, we closed the gap to within eight points, but unfortunately couldn’t get any closer. The final score finished 66-55.

Our last two matches were against well drilled and high quality teams from Irymple Secondary College and Catherine McCauley College. It was evident that both these teams were hungry for a win. They had an excellent defensive setup and transitioned the ball quickly. To our team's credit, they worked hard to try and find ways to score and were able to limit the attacks at times in the games. Overall the the boys had a great day and learnt what it takes to be successful at the next level.

A big thanks to Jackie O'Neill for assisting with the coaching for the competitions.
