9-12 Community News

While the last few years have taught us how to be ‘flexible and agile’ in managing school years that have been anything but ordinary, we were not necessarily expecting the next disruption to the school programs to be flood related. However, that is what we have experienced and, once again, the members of the 9-12 Community have shown their adaptability and resilience in the face of challenges. We send our thoughts to all those who have been affected by the recent flood events.

On the school front, the partial closure of the school had an impact upon several events for our Year 12s. Unfortunately, we were unable to hold our Year 12 Farewell Assembly and celebrations before the students departed to prepare for their final exams. With the exams now underway, we have rescheduled these celebrations to 15th November, when the Year 12s can celebrate the end of their exams and the College community can farewell them properly. We look forward to sharing the highlights of the farewell and Graduation Dinner in the next newsletter.

While we have seen the end of one group’s journey at St Augustine’s, others are continuing. The past two weeks have seen a number of events, at school and beyond.

Students in Year 10C took the opportunity to engage in work experience in a wide range of business settings in the local area and beyond.

The Year 10s then enjoyed their camp experience at Camp Wyuna, with the group taking in the waves, scenery and wildlife of Queenscliff.

The Duke of Edinburgh class and VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies groups enjoyed hiking in the Kooyoora State Park and the Melville Caves area. While the campgrounds proved to be a bit too wet, the hiking was a great experience for the students.

The F-12 Arts and Design Technology Showcase was held this week and the work on display was a credit to all the students who contributed to the exhibition. The static display of artwork and models from the students’ Art and Technology classes demonstrated creativity, skill and imagination. The exhibition was complemented by live performances from a number of students, with performances from Izayiah Ryan, Remi McQueen and Sarah Mott being absolute highlights.

In the coming weeks, our Year 10 and 11 students will have the opportunity to attend onsite seminars with the Success Integrated group, who will be talking to our students about setting their goals for future pathways, building their study skills and leadership qualities.

Course and subject selection conversations with Mrs Anderson for Years 10 and 11 students, are underway and will continue through the next two weeks.

For Year 9 students, details around their electives, VCE Fast Track or VET subjects will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Students who have elected to do a VET program will receive information from the VET provider in relation to their courses. Questions around VET programs can be directed to Mrs Langley.

Students who have elected to do VCE Fast Track subjects will also meet with Mrs Darling (VCE Co-ordinator) in the coming weeks.

The Year 10 camp rounds out the 9-12 camps program for the year and signals that the students are on their way to the final weeks of their academic year.

For Years 10 and 11 students, the next few weeks of the term will see them preparing for their end of year subject exams, being held from 21st - 29th November.

And, for our 2023 VCE students, the Early Commencement Program (ECP) will be held from 1st - 9th December. Details of the booklists and second hand book sales were made available to students and families last week.

As we begin November, we move into the final weeks of the school year. We encourage all members of the 9-12 Community to ensure that they finish the year with energy and positivity.
