Wellbeing MATTERS!

Welcome Benvenuto

Parent engagement in learning is known to lead to improved outcomes for students of all ages. Schools and teachers can support parent engagement by building partnerships to connect learning at home and school.

The terms parent engagement and parent involvement describe how parents and families support their children's academic achievement and wellbeing. Parent involvement usually focuses on school-based activities such as attending events or volunteering in class.

Parent engagement encompasses children's learning at home, at school and in the community, recognising the cultural and social diversity of families and communities. There is strong evidence linking parent engagement with improvements in academic achievement for children of all ages.

Family-school and community partnerships support positive parent engagement and bring together family and community resources to enrich student learning and wellbeing.

Effective partnerships focus on student needs and are motivated by a common and often shared purpose. They recognise that partners offer different knowledge, expertise and resources to support children's education.

At Catholic School Parents Victoria, wellbeing is central to a positive education. Children thrive when they feel cared for, supported and important.

Catholic School Parents Victoria (CSPV) supports parents and families to stay connected throughout a child’s school journey.  We advocate for parent engagement at all levels of catholic education, helping to bring the voices of parents to the decision makers, and completing the circle of support for students.

We believe that as the first educators in a child’s life, parents offer a unique understanding and insight into each child’s abilities, strengths and challenges.  Over the years, as children move through primary and secondary school, parents may feel they should step aside and let the next wave of educators take the reins.  However, evidence shows that children whose parents stay connected throughout the primary and secondary school years and engage in that learning journey, enjoy greater wellbeing and success.

HELP SEEKING

Children can experience all kinds of challenges as they grow and develop. The help-seeking behaviours of children are fundamental to their mental health and wellbeing. Encouraging and fostering help-seeking behaviours is one way to improve mental health and wellbeing. It is important to work with students to make sure they are aware about help-seeking avenues and are confident to seek help from an appropriate source when needed.

How do we know when a problem is/or is getting too large to manage alone? If the problem is too large, what can the person do?

They can seek help from someone they trust.

Helping hands. Write the name of five different people that they can help on one hand, and the names of five trusted people they can go to when they need help (or when they are worried that a friend or family member needs help). This could include a parent, teacher, friend, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin.

If ever you need help sorting out personal or family issues, give CatholicCare Victoria a call.  They offer many services to all members of our community – ALL FREE.

The Spring holidays are here.

Take care. Enjoy. Re-engage with one another.
