Term 4, Week 2

Term 4 already? How did this happen? Is it just me who feels as if this year flown by?

 

We have a very busy and fun term ahead with many musical events to prepare for.

F-6 Music - Term 4 Overview 

Foundation

  • Playing classroom instruments using various dynamics and speeds 
  • Classifying percussion instruments – woods, shaken, metal
  • World music and instruments – India (celebrations – Diwali)
  • Traditional Indian dancing
  • Music Share 

Grades 1 and 2

  • Art & Music creations using the ‘Kandinsky’ project on Chrome Music Lab (iPads)
  • Makes choices about their composition, seeks teacher and peer feedback, makes changes to improve their work 
  • Learns how to screen record their composition and saves, renames and uploads to Showbie as a video file 
  • Instrumental families of the orchestra
  • World music and instruments – India (celebrations – Diwali)
  • Music Share 
  • Associating sounds in words (rhythm)

Grades 3 and 4

  • Focus on correct playing techniques of tuned classroom percussion instruments
  • Beat and rhythm, aural training
  • The music staff / line and space notes / steps (2nds) and skips (thirds) 
  • Class games using individual staves and giant floor staff to learn treble clef note names
  • Note reading using the Staff Wars app
  • Music Share 
  • World music and instruments – India (celebrations – Diwali)

Grades 5 and 6

  • Composing (or transcribing songs of their choosing) into Song Maker (Chrome Music Lab) on iPads
  • Makes choices about their music, reviews their decisions, seeks teacher and peer feedback, makes changes to improve their compositions
  • Saves, renames and uploads their music composition as an audio file 
  • Music Share 
  • World music and instruments – India (celebrations – Diwali)
  • Grade 6 - Preparation of musical items for Graduation 

Music Appreciation 

How do we make informed choices about the music we like to listen to, 

perform or create if we are not exposed to a diverse range of music?

 

Each week a different musical genre (or theme) is played over the loudspeaker at bell times so that students become familiar with a variety of genres and artists. All songs chosen are child-appropriate.
