Welcome to Term 4 BPS

It's great to be back and to see all our students, staff and community! There's a feeling of joy in the air as summer approaches and the sun starts to shine more and more! Thank you for all your caring hellos and welcome backs. It's lovely to be back with my BPS Family!

I have a funny PE story to share on the weather...Last Friday during PE it was hard to hear each other in the gym when the rain unloaded! I was talking to 6C about the rain and to look out on the floor for any leaks when I looked up to the roof and a raindrop fell and hit me on the face! A few more came and I had a little puddle of water at my feet! The kids thought it was a hoot as I was talking to them about letting me know if they found any puddles on the floor so I could wipe them up and then, BOOM, I got hit by a raindrop!!

Ava has Victorian Championships in her sights

A gifted athlete across the board, Grade 6 student and gymnast, Ava, is ready for her first Victorian Championships in Geelong next Sunday. Ava is competing in her very first WAG Junior Victorian Championships after she qualified at the recent Regional Championships. Ava's apparatus score at Regionals earnt her a place at the State Championships.

Ava has been a gymnast for six year and trains up to 10 hours a week for her chosen sport at the Eastern Gymnastics Club in Box Hill South. Ava's two favourite apparatus' are the floor and the bars. When asked what she is most looking forward to about the Victorian Championships, Ava says "the opportunity to compete alongside my friends from our gymnastics club".

Ava is modest and humble about all her achievements and says that there are a lot of people in sport that she looks up to as role models but in particular, Dylan Alcott, our Australian Paralympian/tennis player, because he is always positive and uses his disability as a super power. So what breakfast food gives our gymnast her superpower before she competes? Mum, Nicole, says, "Ava usually has a glass of Milo milk and either pancakes or waffles". That sounds pretty good to me!!

Ava, congratulations on your achievement on reaching State Champs and all the hardwork you and your family put in to reach this milestone. Your team here at BPS want to wish you all the very best for your Victorian Championships and we hope you have lots of fun doing what you do best with your friends! Soar High Ava! You've go this!

BPS Division Athletes ready to fire!

This Wednesday 12th October, 15 of our BPS athletes will be competing and representing BPS and the Whitehorse Division at this year's Division Championships. Congratulations to all our athletes who have been selected in our team! We are SO proud of you all!

Sophie, Ava B, Alfie B, Alfie O, Amelia, Elliott, Raahi, Sarah, Shemmy, Thomas, Jake, Jack, Harrison, Ava M and Mengsi.

We are well represented across both track and field events including the 1500m, 800m, 200m, 100m, 80m H and 4 x 100m relays to the discus, high jump, triple jump and long jump. Thank you to all our families for taking our athletes to the event and supporting our team! I will miss being there to see you all compete! Soar High BPS!

F-2 Kaboom Sports: Olympic Extravaganza

To celebrate our junior athletes, we have our F-2 House Sports with an Olympic flavour this year. On Wednesday 25th October, Kaboom Sports will be running a 90 minute Olympic House Sports for all our students. All students in F-2 will be part of an Olympic country and they will have two Grade 6 leaders accompanying them throughout the day! The special event runs from 11.15am - 12.50pm at BPS. Some of the fun events our athletes will take part in, include, fruit frisbee, mini golf, rocket zone, floor is lava, wacky wheel, bullseye bonanza, ping pong world and soccer ghoulies!

Jump Rope for Heart

Did you know that...

Your heart beats between 60-80 beats per minute?
Jump Rope for Heart was established in 1983, which means a lot of our teachers at BPS took part in this fun program when they were at primary school!
Jumping rope is an awesome cardio-vascular exercise and helps keep your heart strong because it increases your heart rate.
An octopus has three hearts which have different roles. One heart circulates blood around the body, while the other two pump it past the gills, to pick up oxygen.
The longest a student has skipped at BPS without stopping is 20: 55 minutes.
American, Joey Motsay, holds the world record for the longest ever skip of 33 hours and 20 minutes. Joey's amazing effort raised $38,000 for Smile Train, a charity providing free cleft surgeries to children around the world.

It's wonderful to see so many BPS students skipping and the incredible tricks they can do! So many students have uploaded great videos on Showbie for us to watch so thank you! In my first week back I've seen such improvement and persistence in our students. Last week our students were challenge to the "endurance Challenge" to see if they could skip for 1, 2 or 3 minutes without stopping! If they achieved any of these clubs, they have signed the poster and continue to set goals to improve! Thanks to Mr F and the great effort he's done at getting our whole school skipping!

Returning your rope

Thank you to all the students who have already returning their skipping rope. If you have a BPS skipping rope at home, please return it in your PE class or to Mr F or Mrs P so we can cross your name off.
