Melita Roache  -  Religious Education Coordinator

Congratulations to students who received their first Holy Communion last weekend at the Family Mass. It was a very special occasion. Year 8 attended Mass in Week 9 and I would like to extend a thank you to 8.4 for organising this last Mass of the Term in the Chapel.

BEATitudes T-shirts are finally in! We are looking forward to starting rehearsals up again next term. Everyone is welcome to join.

Year 7 RE

Year 7 have been working on a unit the ‘Stewards of Creation unit this term. They have learnt that the  Scriptures and the Creed inform our beliefs about God, creation and humanity. In this unit students examined the Christian belief that God is the source of all creation, and that all human beings have been called to stewardship. We have also looked at the Church teaching on caring for our environment, including Pope Francis’ Laudato Si. Students were encouraged to explore positive ways to show care for all of God’s creation.

To complete the unit the students in 7.1 wrote prayers of gratitude for creation and sorry prayers for not caring for the environment. These were used for our class prayer service

Dear God, Thank you for the environment you have provided for us to live in and the natural resources that you have given us. We also thank you for the marvelous nature that you have given us. We are lucky to have an earth you created for us to live in and to take care of . We ask you to provide us with the wisdom to take more care of  the earth. Also thank you for the food and water.- Lacey Cruickshank

Dear Lord, grant us your wisdom to care and heal the earth. Help us act good for the future generations. Help us to create new generations for the future and help them care for the earth. Thank you for all you have done to give us the world we have today. Amen.- Haylee Swan

Dear God, Thank you for giving us day and night dusk and dawn. Thank you  for giving us food and water and a place to stay, a place to live. Thank you for the beauty of nature. We are grateful to you for giving us so much. - Ella Ward

Yr 7 Sorry prayers for creation

Dear God, I am sorry for everything I have done, like how I have littered, used plastic when I could have used a container, drove when I could have walked and wasted food. Sorry for the way humanity has treated the earth and creation, for example deforestation, pollution and climate change. Isabelle Bender

Dear God, I am sorry for all that we have done to your world like deforestation, overfishing, global warming and hurting your environment. I am sorry for littering and for using plastic bottles and wrapping my food in plastic. I am also sorry for using plastic things like chips and other things.-Leo Whiteley

Dear Lord,  Sorry for the times I wasted food. Sorry for the times I polluted the Earth. Sorry for all we have done to the Earth like deforestation and pollution. Help us realize what we are doing to the Earth. Help us fix what we have done to the Earth, help bring good from bad to protect creation. Help us appreciate creation more. Amen.- Grace Friedman

Dear God, I am sorry for wasting bits of food at times and forgetting to put my rubbish in the bin. When people litter it ruins the environment and people litter the plastic instead of biodegradable products. All of the humans around the world are destroying your creation for which  we are very sorry . Richard May

Year 8 RE

Year 8 students have been working on the ‘Striving for Goodness’ unit this term. In this unit students explored the action of God in creation, the reality of good and evil, and the human search for meaning in life. In groups the students created their own goodness project. Some students made posters with inspirational quotes to put up around the school. Some wrote inspirational verses in chalk on the cement and some created a goodness calendar which had a random act of goodness for each day of the month. To complete the unit the students in 8.2  wrote prayers of gratitude for  the good things in their life, which  were used in our class prayer service.

Dear God, I’m thankful for my family and friends and the house I live in. I’m also grateful for the talents you have given me and the resources you left for us on earth. I’m grateful for the ability to speak, see and hear. I’m grateful for the country that I live in that is safe from war. The last thing I’m grateful for is my appearance because it’s what makes me unique and I’m grateful for how you helped me when I was feeling down Lila Killen
