Prep Report

Term 4

What an incredible first year of school for the 2022 Prep students! We are very proud of all that they have achieved and know that they will continue their love of learning in Year One.

Literacy

This term in Reading, we read Fiction texts and focused on Traditional Fairytales. We learnt that fiction texts have characters, settings, a problem and a solution.

Whilst reading several different fairytales, we were able to name the features of the story and sequence the events in the order that they happened. We also learnt about digraphs, short vowels sounds and how to use onset and rime to segment and blend words together to help us read. We developed our stamina by reading independently every day and working on our reading goals to help us become good readers. We learnt to visualise, which is when you make a picture in your head as you read and make inferences about how the characters are feeling and why.

This term in Writing, we learnt to write our own narrative stories. We were able to create characters and settings and write a story that has a beginning, middle and an end.  We published our stories and made our own books. We continued to practice using our letter-

sound knowledge to sound out and record unknown words.

Numeracy

This term in Maths, we continued to build on our understanding of numbers. We counted and made numbers to 20 and beyond, using bundling sticks, tens frames and number lines. We learnt how to add, subtract and share equal groups of objects through games, recording number sentences and the use of concrete materials.

In Measurement and Geometry, we learnt how to explain the position of an object using vocabulary such as 'in', 'on', 'beside', 'under' 'next to', 'above' 'below' and 'between'.

Social and Emotional Learning

This term in SEL, we explored the core emotions i.e. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust. We are able to name these emotions and explain what these emotions look and feel like.

Inquiry

This term in Inquiry, we explored the topic of "My Place, Our Place" through a sustainability lens. We explored what it means to take care of our home, school and world and "what is Rubbish and what happens to it after we throw it away?"
