Achieving Excellence Together

Dear Families,

This week, every student received a letter and raffle tickets for our annual major school fundraiser. Raffle tickets can be sold to friends, family, neighbours, and others in the community. Please remember to return your raffle tickets and payment envelope to either the front office or your child’s teacher to ensure you ae in the running for our fantastic prizes which include a bike, scooters, skateboards, vouchers and much, much more. If you require more raffle tickets, please go directly to the front office. All money raised go directly toward enhancing the resource for our students including updating our Take Home Reading Libraries.

Homework

This term, students began trialling a new way of interacting with home learning through digital technologies. The feedback from teachers has been overwhelmingly positive commenting on the high level of participation and engagement by students across all year levels. This format is a trial as we look to revisit our Homework policy for 2023. In the coming days, you will receive a link to a survey asking for your perspective on what homework should look like for students at APS. I encourage you to complete the survey with as much detail as possible as the school improvement team will use the information provided moving forward. If you have any further questions or comment, please reach out to us through the school email.

Beginning School’s Program (Prep Transition)

We look forward to welcoming our 2023 prep students to the Beginning School Program that will commence on Thursday 17th November at 2:15pm. If you have not finalised the enrolment for your child into prep for 2023 or know of any family / friends that may not have enrolled yet, please do so as soon as possible so that we may include all of our students in the Beginning School Program and support them with the transition to school.

Sun Smart Policy

In line with our Sun Smart Policy, all students are required to wear a wide-brimmed school hat to protect them from harmful UV rays this term; please ensure your child has their hat at school each day. Students who are not wearing their hat will not be able to play and will be asked to sit in the shaded area.

School Hours

Students should not be arriving to school prior to 8:45am and left in the school yard unattended. Teachers are not required on duty until 8:45 am thus; we do not have anyone on duty until 8:45am. Parents are requested to book children into before school care or make other arrangements.

Similarly, school finishes at 3.15pm and it is expected that children are collected promptly from school. Students should not be waiting for parents outside of the school grounds. Students not picked up at 3:15pm should be waiting for parents at the office to ensure students’ safety. If care is needed before or after school, please contact our after-school service provider, Big Child Care on 8682 9400.

Student safety is our main priority, and we thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Families leaving Albanvale PS

Please let the office know if your child is leaving the school at the end of this year so that we may begin the transition process for your child with their new school.

Did you know?

  • Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school
  • Missing 10 percent(or about 18 days) can make it harder to learn to read
  • Students can still fall behindif they miss just a day or two days every few weeks
  • Being late to school may lead to poor attendance
  • Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
