ILSP at McGuire
Update
This Term the ILSP (Intensive Learning Support Program) students have been settling into a new program that sees them working at their own pace, focussing on the following areas: Literacy and Numeracy, Health and Fitness and Personal Development skills.
Students attend school ready to learn by 9am and finish the school day at 3:10pm. While at the McGuire Campus, students have enjoyed utilising the sporting equipment and outdoor spaces during break times. Our students are following the same expectations as their peers at Hawdon Street and are continuing to impress us as they meet these to a high standard.
On Tuesdays and Fridays the students participate in the Blue Edge Program (Educate, Develop, Grow, Empower) which is a holistic program run by Blue Light in partnership with Victoria Police combining physical training, mentoring and life skills. The students have had a great time participating in physical activity programs run by “Scotty” from Aquamoves and take great pleasure in beating the Police at the activities.
We have also had visits from the employment teams from Kmart and KFC where the students asked many questions about getting a part-time job.
It has been a positive learning experience for our small group of students, who enjoy taking it in turns cooking for the group. Students have also started planning their 'hands on' projects. Some of the projects that the students have developed are designing and then producing a swing chair made out of recycled pallets, planning the family presentation night to be held early in December and decorating the campus in preparation for Christmas!
We look forward to sharing our progress with you later in the term.
